Cancelled my DirecTV account six months ago and no regrets. Using an indoor antenna to get the news & local stations & I still have my Internet through Spectrum (formerly Time/Warner). I have to admit that I do miss some of the channels, like NatGeo and the Science channel, though.

Reading through this thread, it's interesting how differently people define "cable cutting." Within the past year, I dropped my cable TV service and instead got a Roku box and a Sling TV subscription. Yes, it's cheaper, and I get fewer channels, but it's still a subscription service that I pay for monthly, so really how is it that different than cable?
I think sometimes too when you start piecemealing all of these ala carte services together to get the channels you want, you end up not saving all that much money in the end. Sometimes.
Right now I'm using Netflix ($11/mo), Hulu ($8/mo), and Sling TV Blue ($25/mo) + Sling's DVD service ($5/mo). So $50 total - sure it's not as high as cable, but it's not like I'm saving heaps of money there either. And of course that does not include internet services, or the occasional movie I rent using Amazon video. And we're also paying monthly right now for Amazon Prime so we can watch one show in particular (we'll of course drop it when we're done). I do like the fact that you can now easily add and drop premium movie services as needed, so when Game of Thrones or Homeland is done for the year, we just axe HBO/Showtime until the next season.

What we need is some kind of all in one service that has all of them built in, where you can enable / disable channel packs associated with those providers rather than having to get each individually. If they do that then it will help give people a reason to not resort to piracy to get what they need. If they have them in all in 1080P would be another needed feature across the board.

I go without cable as well, and have two small children who consume a fair amount of TV (that makes me sound like a bad parent, but whatever... Let people judge)
Denmark, where I live, do still have a few of what they call public service channels that are broadcast over the air, we watch those sometimes, but otherwise use steaming of either free or paid services (have both Netflix and HBO Nordic)... I don't miss regular TV

Gave away my TV set many-many-many years ago to my brother ... don't miss it.
Now, a few YT channels that might need some attention:
* (
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCy0tKL1T7wFoYcxCe0xjN6Q) (Technology Connections)
Mostly a look back to old technologies. Well produced and passionate.
* (
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv_vLHiWVBh_FR9vbeuiY-A/videos) (Historia Civilis)
History of Rome - in symbolic markup (not the only channel that does that). Just look at it.
* (
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwRqWnW5ZkVaP_lZF7caZ-g) (Retro Game Mechanics Explained)
The channel name can be a bit misleading. It explains (with really good emulator visualizations) what the game does on hardware level, usually in the context of some exploit or bug. Like the latest, dropping out of the level in "Super Mario Land 2" and walking around in memory (with Mario) to intentionally interact with a specific spot in memory to prematurely "finish" the game.

A look at movies with "History Buff" hat on. What historically actually happened, what the movie got right and what it messed up.

I was thinking about shining up my old Gameboy, but after seeing that, I'm kinda scared to do it.
