You shouldn't need USB drivers unless you're installing Windows 95/98/NT. Everything from Win2000 onwards has built-in USB 2.0, and automatic recognition for standard USB devices so that drivers are not needed. Of course, some things made today are a little different to the "standard" USB devices and so need drivers anyway!
I've not needed USB drivers for XP x32 or XP x64, USB devices should just be automatically recognised when installed.
It looks a good computer, anway :) You can always add more RAM or a bigger PSU if you need it later on.
I think I know what the problem is. Windows thinks my usb ports are 1.0, so they install the 1.0 drivers. Perhaps the motherboard's 'software' is not telling windows, or windows isn't understand properly that the ports are 2.0.
I've tried manually to make it use the usb 2.0 drivers, but can't seem to manually select the '.sys' files myself. I think the motherboard's BIOS may need updating so it can tell XP that those ports are 2.0, but surely the current BIOS should already be doing that right?
This is a weird problem because. There are 6 usb ports at the back already. And you can attach cables inside the motherboard to allow for 6 more, either to expansion cards or the ones on the front of the case.
I go into Device Manager and the 2 ports attached to the front of the case aren't recognised, but i tell windows to search for the drivers and it installs the correct usb2.0 drivers! Yet the other ports when i tell it to search for a better driver, just reinstall 1.0 ones...
Thanks for the help guys, for now at least I have 2 ports I can use. :laff:
