Bugs in SS1 that fatally end my adventure. - by Volitions Advocate

Ok so im on my second earnest playthrough of SS1.
The first time I got as far as level 8 i think.
I couldn't input the reactor code because the computer node on level 5 could not be destroyed. It was like it wasn't really there because everytime i fired at it the bullet would go through it and hit the wall behind it and the screen never stopped flashing numbers. I tried to input the code changing the 5th number over and over and it never worked. had to restart.
that was over a year ago and now i'm trying again.
Problem now is that I can't get to level 6. I've destroyed the laser but the elevators on lvl 3 and lvl 5 still both say that theres power redirected to lvl R. I dont know what else I can possibly do. Is there something I've missed? The only area I haven't esplored is the locked office on lvl3, the one where you need the severed head for the retina scanner. But I can't get to the retina scanner until i try to jettison beta grove and open the maintenance hatches on the level to destroy more cameras to lower the level security to 0%.
I love this game.. and I would also really love to finish it. But I can't just keep restarting and playing half the game like this. Is very very annoying.
this time im playin on SS portable. is it a problem with this version?
Anybody else had the same problems?

As far as I know, no one else complained about that sort of problem before, so I'm sure that there's nothing wrong with SS Portable.
Those are some very strange bugs indeed. I've lost count of how many times I've played System Shock, and yet I've never seen anything like that. The only suggestion in such cases is to reinstall the game and retry. Seeing as you're using Portable, maybe download it again and give it another go.

Just to clear something up about SS-Portable: It's only a way to start the game. If your game crashes or if you hear no sound - that could be the fault of SS-P. But there are no changes to gameplay of any kind.
I'm sorry, I'm not good enough of an SS1 player to give advise on what might be the problem here.

I'm not trying to say that theres alterations in SSP. the first bug I mentioned happened in SS1 that I set up using the guide here at ttlg.
I didn't really know how you got ssp to work the way it does and i thought maybe it triggered another bug.
It could just be that theres something I haven't done. i just dont know what It is. the walkthroughs all say i need to destroy the laser which i've already done,
but who knows. maybe I'll just start over again and try it again.

I've had a problem maybe similar to yours on my last SS1 hardest run. I was on Security level, and a wall appeared where the wall isn't supposed to be, and I couldn't finish the game. I even tried jetpacking to the top of the level to that room where you need to take out Diego, I don't remember what happened there, but I don't think all my batt packs together were able to get me up there.
That was the last run of System Shock I ever did, that was like, 3 years ago.
