You're saying that to me and not the guy who speaks in animated gifs and resorts to doxing? I'd say that describes him fairly well, and by extension you, since you seem to condone his actions.

Doom and nuance is a phrase that goes together? Doom was a great game, hugely influential (for good or bad), but I really cant understand the shitstorm this has created.
2016 is calling and we want our congenial, tolerant Gen Gaming back thanks.
There are aspects of doom other than the violence and gore yes. The setting, the pacing, the mood. I'm not really wading into the shit-storm (as shown by the second half of the post you refer to) as I don't really care about the mod one way or the other, but I do think that Manwe's attempt to nullify other people's exception to the mod by saying that there is nothing more to Doom than just violence and gore was side-stepping the actual complaints that were made and hence missed the point.

yeh you are right, Doom did have other things going for it.
actually the first time i played it was in a friends office after hours, we hooked up the sound to a 2x12 inch bass cabinet. Holy crap that was amazing.

In addition - It's what the fans have done with it since it's release content wise, and with the engine itself (after id software released the source code).
If you look at just what the Doom engine is capable of with the source ports, it's absolutely no comparison, and really great to see when it's used effectively.

There's no hidden malevolence in what I said. It does seem like people get pretty defensive about this mod though. That's one of the points I would consider annoying. People constantly say that "Brutal Doom is how DOOM was always supposed to be!" and for some reason you can't criticize that point of view (in fact I haven't talked about it before). Because DOOM was always about brutally murdering monsters left and right. Yes but at the same time we shouldn't flatten the whole issue like that.
By this logic we can say that DOOM and Duke3D and Blood and Quake are basically the same thing in terms of tone and vibe. That Doomguy and Duke and Caleb are pretty much the same character. You don't get the same vibe from playing Blood that you're getting from Duke3D or DOOM. So again, I can't speak for anyone else but to me Doomguy was always kind of a badass survivor, not a a psychotic maniac bathing in blood for pleasure and flipping off monsters. Sorry if someone can't see the difference.
I consider this type of criticism valid though primarily in the context of "BD is what DOOM has always been anyway" opinions. Otherwise it can change whatever it wants, it's a mod after all.
