Ha, our old paladin of hate Dethtoll is in the RPS comments slagging it off.

I had to look that up myself. I'll just go ahead and quote it here:
Quote:
The sad thing is that it really isn't Doom at all. It's what 14 year old boys think Doom is. It's puerile, juvenile garbage for people with mental and emotional problems. It harkens back to the bloody sprite edits that Eric Harris made for a couple of his Doom maps (look it up.) The mod maker is a notorious shitbag who has been banned from nearly every Doom related forum there is, has documented Neo Nazi leanings, and is generally a sociopath. The mod itself completely wrecks the balance of the game due to a fundamental misunderstanding of the flow of combat.
I try not to be judgmental, but I really do think less of people who like it. And anyone who calls it “the way Doom was meant to be” needs to GTFO.
Classic dethtoll. :laff:

Saw this on reddit, and was wondering if it's also dt commenting on Brutal Doom - some of the wording is exactly the same as the RPS comments above, and in general it just sounds like him, but the praise he gives to the mod kind of clashes with his recent opinion.

Not sure how I feel about dismissing a project or product because the person who created them is an a-hole (especially if said product is free), that would probably eliminate a lot of good stuff in this world.

That's the sign of good critical objectivity mind you; the ability to judge a piece without letting the creator's character influence said criticism. But these nuances get lost on the internet, where it's all black & white, right or wrong, yes or no. And yes, I am the Mungrul who responded to him over on RPS. He's a good guy, but his passion can cloud his judgement. And he falls in to the same trap as GMXDev did here recently, saying that anyone who disagrees with him is wrong and doesn't deserve his respect. That immediately places a barrier between him and anyone else who might have been interested in discussing things with him.
And to be frank, I suspect a lot of people will just discount his opinion completely, dismissing it as the crazed rantings of just another internet flame warrior.

Really?
Really? I mean, even if it's true, why would he admit that he's so
bad at it?

I thought so. :)

It's okish. If you like getting your eyes and ears constantly bombarded by all sorts of clutter, screen shaking and obnoxiously loud weapons, yeah, go for it. It's kind of like DOOM meets Duke3D with Half-Life level design (sort of). Honestly, it just made me want to replay Duke3D again.
The campaign itself is fine though the trailer probably shows off the best stuff. It's got some flashy crowd-pleasing things ("omg, jets, 11/10") but I've seen more impressive GZDOOM mapsets (Winter's Fury or ZDOOM Community Map 2 or something). It's funny how people complain about Call of Duty all the time but give them a CoD-style setpiece in DOOM and suddenly it's the best thing ever.
It was kind of fun for a single playthrough, probably will not go back to it.

Heh, the trailer made me chuckle, so ridiculously over the top. Punching a group of pink demons in the face.
I enjoyed watching that but kinda don't actually feel like playing it. Seems it'd get boring fast (and yes I never completed serious sams either and those are designed to pace well )

Well there's being an a-hole and then there's being a
Neo Nazi.
