i have the flower card in my inventory but can't read it for some reason. scripting error? or am i missing something and the name is somewhere else?

No, frobbing the card in inventory should give you the name of the curator's wife, which is vital to completing the mission. I'm not sure what could be wrong, if it were a missing script file, you'd probably not have gotten that far.

yeah, it is the strangest thing. I had to get the name by guessing.
I can read most of it by dropping it on the ground and zooming in with my bionic eye :)
to my wife who has been ? ? the last few years... you are my ? ? !
everthing else seems to be working fine.
hopefully i will be able to finish.

after shutting down the beam/alarm i was unable to frob/replace the statue... so I restore to original thief, reinstall and start over... this time when I step out the front door of my room, there is floating hammer... wtf... that wasn't there the first time I played.
Anyway.. all appears to be well now.
advice to others... When starting off from your room, it you don't see the floating hammer... reinstall and start over until you do... cause something is wrong. further up this thread someone else did mention this, but i did not grasp its meaning at the time.

Hello!
I just entered the area of the treasury and have encountered a game crashing bug. I go down the ladder, and there's a short corridor with one of the pink buglets there. I turn right, then left, dead end. So I head back and as I approach the pink buglet, the game display starts to literally *smear*. It's like someone is taking the smudge tool in Photoshop and rubbing it all over the top left and right corners, then blending across the top. I can't move or turn, but I can escape to the menu and reload.
Luckily, my saved game is BEFORE I went down the path.
Is this just me or has anyone encountered this?
Cheers!

Replaying this fantastic mission and encountered a problem I'm sure I hadn't the first time, so it's obviously a technical problem and not the mission (although it worked for the missions I played before). I'm asking anyway hoping there's an easier solution than to reinstall everything in the middle of a FM and have to start over again.
Problem is: I can't read pinned sheets and plaques (including the shop signs) but I can read the books. If I frob a plaque nothing happens. Any ideas?

Haven't digged deeper into it, but I'd check for missing custom scripts as one possible reason.
Another one might be your combination of graphics card, its drivers and ddfix:
On my notebook, any of the in game mission texts doesn't show up at all, while every other readable works fine. On my desktop PC with another graphics card, drivers and ddfix version, the in game text display works. There once had been the possibility to push scroll-lock to switch between two overlay modes, one of them is showing the texts and the other one the mission itself. Unfortunately once switched, the display of the Thief world becomes mixed up and you can look through certain solid walls.

I already had checked and renewed the scripts although I hadn't found anything wrong. As for your second suggestion - the "sub"titles during the guard's conversation work, so it's neither the mentioned incompability.
I hoped it would be a simple "rename-a-folder" or similarly easy to solve problem, but it seems I can't avoid a fresh installation, sigh :(

Are you using Garrettloader in a version prior to the current beta test version to install the fan missions?
IIRC, prior versions of Garrettloader had some issues with installing different language versions of FMs. Don't know if those have been fixed yet.
I suppose you run the mission on a german version of Thief, aren't you? Check your books folder, if there are any english subfolders and if so, move any file inside of these folders up one folder in the path or simply rename every "english" subfolder to "german". Check the other subfolders of Thief as well.

Both no: I use Darkloader 4.3 and English version (just love the original voices!). Usually I play German FMs only with the German version.
But your question made me try it with the German version (could have thought about this earlier!) - and there it works! Weird but that proofs once more that my english version is obviously messed up and needs to be reinstalled completely
