When this was originally released, I was on vacation and therefore away from my computer, and it was KILLING me not being able to play it (being as Ominous Bequest was and still is my favorite FM of all time).
But anyway, I finally played and beat it and...what can I say. I now have two new favorite FMs...of all time. I don't know how you do it dude, your FMs are just so incredibly well-made and manage to do such a superior job of providing a great STORY DRIVEN (my favorite part) game play experience. All the plot twists, false endings, steadily building tension- if Hitchcock made FMs they would probably be very similiar to these. So yeah, consider me a raving fan. This was absolutely incredible, and now I'm going to have to fight off every urge to not immediately start it again on expert.

I think I may have gotten myself trapped. Prepare for massive spoiler text!
I went into the sewers using the manhole key, flooded the chamber, solved the riddler's puzzle (not really, I trial and error'd it with quicksave :o ) got the staff, headed further into the crypt, and there's a pedestal that looks like it catches fire, but there's a hammer-shaped hole there, I figure I've gotta raid the old hammer place to get one. So I go forward, but I have no way to open the steel door at the end of the crypt. I backtrack to see if I missed anything outside but the sewers are blocked off and I can't reset the flood switch. I haven't been into the city watch place or the keymaker's place, or the museum, so anything I needed to pick up there is a no-go for me. What the hades do I do now?

Look for a tomb that has crashed through from above then mantle up.

Look for a tomb that has crashed through from above then mantle up.That leads to the steel doors that don't open. I don't have a key and they can't be picked.

Try turning to your left. :p
Don't feel bad, I did the same thing on the first time through preBeta.

I was stuck in same place for a long time, so it seems have many others. Kinda funny though,
as the solution is big and in plain sight

I was in that room several times searching everywhere without finding it. Had to revert to this thread for an answer. If there had been a hint somewhere, or if the banner had stood out in some way (length, color, lighting), it would have been better. My problem was I had no clue if the opening procedure was even in that room, it could have been wherever. Subconciously that makes you search a little less closely...

I just wanted to say I finished this mission a couple days ago and it is truly awesome. Beautiful textures, interesting plot twists, and much longer than you'd expect.
One touch I liked is the XYZZY Travel Agency poster in the first mission. At least one of us taffers remembers playing Colossal Cave Adventure those many years ago...

Just finished the first part of this - it's GREAT. I don't usually gush over FM's (ok, I probably creep Gaetane out just a little bit ...) but my hopes for this sequel were well placed.
Here's the thing (listen up all FM authors!) - it's about the STORY. That's the thing this author nails, over and over and over again. In the main plot, in the sub-plots, in the characters, in the city itself. Sure it's got fancy scripting and new stuff to goof around with, but STORY driven gameplay is what made LGS great, and it's what puts FM's like Ominous Bequest and Broken Triad in the same category.
Can't wait to start mission 2. Congratulations and THANK YOU for all the work that went into this. Truly a joy to play. :thumb: :D
