The craziest thing about it is the commentary by the camerman (said to be a soldier too). This guy is positively frothing (or worse) over what he is seeing. Pretty ill and I certainly wouldn't want to meet him, the weirdo.
But the
worst thing to come out it (imho) ere the idiots on the BBC website who are saying that this kind of thing sshould never be reported, troops have it hard u no?, so what it's just a thrashing, these kids deserved it and so on.
I'm not going to make any comment on the percieved civilisation, or not, of cultures.

Firstly, was it just stones that were thrown at the British troops?
Secondly, I remember an incident involving Australian troops giving a few kicks (not nearly as bad as this) to Indonesian militiamen after they had been shot at by the militiamen. The troops got into heaps of trouble etc. I was disgusted by what happened to the troops - THEY WERE SHOT AT and then they have to act like robots?

I haven't lived in the UK for some time, so I'm not sure if I can rightfully say this... But that's just typical of us Brits. You piss us off and we'll give you a right kicking, no ands, ifs, or buts about it. ;)
But really. I'm not trying to make excuses, but you have soldiers over there who have to put up with this stuff all the time. They're tired, they want to go home, they're constantly being provoked, and eventually someone's going to do something, and you'll just crack. The British aren't the only ones. You've got a bunch of guys trained to be violent here, what do you expect?
(Note: I in no way condone the actions on those troops. It was just stupid of them.)
