British Secret Service get knickers in twist whilst chewing on some hypocrisps - by SubJeff

So you know for a fact that MI5 have never used French, German, American etc etc passports on any missions?
I get the "cloning real people's ID" outrage, that's not what I'm questioning. What I am questioning is the whole "you shouldn't be using fake Country X passports".
Fafhrd on 21/2/2010 at 22:32
But nobody is saying that they shouldn't be using fake foreign passports, period. The issue is entirely that they were using passports that (other than the photograph) exactly match those of living people.
SubJeff on 21/2/2010 at 23:29
But it isn't. If it were just that I'd understand but there seems to be outrage about British passports being used at all.

Israel puts British citizens' lives in danger by stealing their identities which is (1) illegal, and (2) dangerous to the entirely innocent citizens involved and you don't think they should make a point of them being naughty? I'd bet if they'd used your passport, making you a target for retribution (and tacitly complicit in murder) then you would not be happy.
Just because Mossad were such a bunch of rank amateurs (again, as if getting caught by that well known counter intelligence agency the NZ police when trying it previous wasn't embarrassing enough) that they thought they could get away with it because johnny sandni brown person doesn't have a functioning brain let alone a basic surveillance system they don't get a free pass for the special needs secret service.

Is it, though? I mean, under Israeli law?
Because the whole point of intelligence agencies is that they flout international law.

Have you actually read anything I've said?

I've read everything you've said. Your "point" appears to be that espionage by 'friendly' agencies should be ignored and or laughed off and any response to it is pointless and we do it too (apparently without being caught, but) and it's all a smokescreen. Which isn't really so much a coherent point as a list of justifications and excuses. They got caught. It's a risk they took. Suck it up, after all Mossad will.

It doesn't have to be illegal under
Israeli law (though it likely is in this case as some of those involved were dual Brit/ Israeli nationality) for the Brits to consider it illegal. Technically all British passports and all other country's too, iirc, remain the property of the issuing authority, as such if you forge one it is a crime same as counterfeiting by printing pound notes in Nigeria is, whether or not that was a crime in Nigeria itself.
