well, sort of, but also not. Go to a lot of musical shows, operas, and popular music (although the demands are often lower), and you'll hear plenty of really good, trained voices.
There's nothing uniquely powerful about her actual voice, her selling point is that nobody expected her to be good whatsoever, but she rose above that expectation and embodied something we like (ie. talent) in the body of a woman we wouldn't normally look twice at.
