Hi everyone,
I have a technical issue with both Thief Gold and Thief 2. I just installed it on a new laptop, with NewDark 1.23 ; the game runs smooth but it randomly freezes for about half a second when I'm playing. I believe it is sound related, because it seems to occur when the game loads a sound clip. For example it happens a lot (though not always) when I knockout an A.I or when a guard spots me and shouts an alert.
I have an intelcore i5-5200u and an Nvidia GeForce 920m, running windows 8.1.
Did anyone encoutered the same bug or knows a way to solve it ?
Thanks.

Is it happening with all FMs or a particular one ?
It happens to me in some FMs (Religious Conflict for example) that have long music, it freeze 0,5sec (during the loading of the wav I guess)
But I never had this 'bug' with AI sound.

It is happening with all missions, OMs and FMs.
To be clear it can happen with all sounds (footsteps, ladders, doors etc...) but it seems to be more frequent with the a.i.
Thanks for your reply, i understand that a long music can take some time to load, but a footstep ? Could be a problem with my hard drive.

try changing your sound settings in the audio options menu - try various combinations of openal/default, and acceleration on/off.

Thank, Voodoo47. I tried different audio settings, it didn't change anything. Also, i noticed that some readables take some time to load. ( i see a blank page for a second and then the text appears ) Never noticed that before on my older pc. I don't know if it's related.

you should have some sort of performance/power consumption balancing software on your laptop, it usually allows creation of profiles for games. make sure shock2.exe is launched with maximum cpu/gpu performance.

Are you referring to the Nvidia Control Panel ? Thief2 is set to run with the nvidia 920m. I switch power managment from adaptive to max performance but the problem is still here.

Solved it by upgrading my Nvidia drivers.
