A Saul spinoff would have great potential. They have to keep Hule!

Well I finally watched the first episode of BB tonight, now that I've gone thru Arrested Dev. I need some English language media at least once a day. It's off to a good start

The Wire will make you despair at reality and how screwed up it is... so you may want to get a side order of something less depressing to go with
The Wire. I would.
I'm from Mexico, so I think I can manage some more depressing reality ;), but thanks for your concern.

Well, I was half right.
These are my predictions for the end. They somewhat mirror Scot's thoughts, though I'll add my own quips as to why I believe something will happen.
Walt will end up being the only surviving member of his family. It's a nice, tragic twist that the dying man eventually outlives everyone he truly cares about, dying due to the consequences of the things he did to do to secure them after his passing. It fits in perfectly with the themes of the show,
This latter half of the 5th season has shown that life, at least in the drug trade, is cyclical. As Walt eventually succeeded Gus, so will Lydia eventually succeed Walt. I have a feeling that with Walt being hounded by the DEA, they're going to deem him far too great a risk to keep alive. He knows too much. Knows each of these new players personally. If he's caught, he could ruin everything for them. He'll obviously escape their retaliation, but I doubt most of his family will be so lucky.
While watching Talking Bad (yeah, I know...shut up ), Vince Gilligan mentions that Lydia will lean something about salmon spanning. This makes me think about the cyclical, fight or die nature of the drug trade I mentioned above. It's a pretty big hint, actually.
He didn't die tonight, but I seriously doubt Jesse will make it to the final episode. The vast majority of the cast won't make it to the last half hour. The final scenes will be Walt going out in a blaze of glory. No doubt he'll die in infamy, and take quite a few people with him.

What's surprising to me is how I find Walt now scary and unpredictable. I was always rooting for him but now I just want to see it play out, however that happens. In fact this and last season I've liked Hank and Marie more and more.

Well that was just fucking heartbreaking.

Ok. I have to admit that I stopped watching Breaking Bad about halfway through the 2nd season. I had heard from a friend what the show was about when the first season was on the air and decided it wasn't something I wanted to watch. I'm a fan of crime drama, especially detective fiction, but sometimes certain things turn me off. Romanticism is probably the trigger, that's the only way I can describe it. I loved every minute of Pulp Fiction except for the scene that romanticized Vincent's heroin use. I've never watched Scarface either, albeit I know nothing about the show other than I get the impression that it kind of idolizes the crime boss kind of thing. I like Heat. That's my kind of crime show.
I started watching BB anyway and I turned it off because of Walt's decision to not accept the money from Elliot and Gretchen. I thought it was a Shakespeareian character fault like Hamlet deciding not to avenge his father when the time was right just because he wanted specifically to send his uncle to hell. I turned it off halfway through the episode where Jesse went to "take care of it" because I just didn't see it going anywhere, and I didn't like any of the characters.
Well this thread somehow compelled me to start watching again. Up until this point I was watching to see what happened next, rather than because I cared about any of the characters. Of course now I know that there's a lot I don't know about Walt's relationship with Elliot and Gretchen that informed his decision not to accept their help. So I can't judge him the way I did before. And I've come to realize that I do have a few favorite characters. I dont' know why, but I like Gus. I can't even figure it out. He's pretty boring, but there's something else to him that makes me want to know more. I LOVE Banks Mike (didn't know his characters name until later). that guys is just awesome in every way. And seeing as how I just finished watching "Half Measures" the second last episode in season 3. I defintely, as of the last 5 seconds of the episode, have suddenly fallen in love with Walt.
So now I'm hooked, and I have ppl to care about in the show. On to the season 3 finale.

You're so wrong about Scarface.

Is that a recommendation?
