What is the difference between bows and crossbows? As far as I can tell these are the differences:
Bows have variable damage (like 2-50 for Daedric) while crossbows have fixed (like 30-30 for Dwarven)
Bows use arrows while crossbows use bolts
I've run a search, but I still get the feeling there is a difference I'm missing. My character is pretty much maxed out, with 100 Marksman skill, and I am currently using a Dwarven crossbow for ranged stuff. If I buy that Daedric bow will I really see a difference? As far as the stats imply crossbows always do max damage, while with bows you have to make sure you fully pull back the arrow to do max damage (hold down attack long enough). Is this correct? If it is wouldn't the Dwarven crossbow end up dealing out more damage over time since it fires at max damage much quicker?

well, crossbows are much better. BUT, if you use a bow, there are a wide variety of arrows. and some arrows get more damage and usually wont miss. i found that crossbows fire faster and is easier to aim. crossbows also have more of "Condition"(hp for crossbows)
so i suggest you use remain with the crossbow.:thumb:

crossbows vs. bows...
kind of like asking whats the difference between a longsword and a sabre... they are both swords, just pick the one with better stats.

Yeah, the major differences are merely the fire rate and the damage. I carry both - a Dwarven crossbow and a Daedric bow. I use the crossbow when I want to be quick, I use the bow when I want to be efficient; it depends on the situation. If something's rushing you, a crossbow is the best bet. If you're sniping something or otherwise attacking an Unsuspecting and/or Far-Away Creature, the bow does wonders.

IVe found that while Crossbows do more damage as a whole, they are very inaccurate. I use both, my Bow for outdoors and my CB for indoors. Indoor areas usually are close quarters enough so that the CBs inaccuracy doesnt matter.

Hmmm.. not much experience with ranged weapons but i have just started a character who uses ranged weapons. I personally prefer bows over crossbows but i suppose it's personal taste.
I find with a stealthy character (like the one i play) bows are better because you're usually sneaking when you fire and have time to pull back all the way not to mention the fact that if you get a critical it's more than likely to kill most low level critters in one shot. If your character is a combat specialised then the crossbow would probably be better because the enemy will see you immediately and you'll want to get a couple of shots off before you get your axe out.
I personally prefer bows over crossbows because of the reasons i have already stated and i love the sound affect when you pull back the draw string - you can really imagine the power behind the arrow. :cheeky:
