the performance issures is a problem which needs to be addressed in a offical patch
I have a friend who can somehow run it with basically no lag on fairly low settings with a 2GHz PC and 756mb RAM. Which is, needless to say, weird :wot:

Also, morrowind feels like a larger place than oblivion... is this just because the fog obscures me from seeing just how close Red mountain is to vivec...
Yes. Use the FPSoptimiser to set your view to 300% and the world becomes laughably small. Quests where you have to locate a cave or somesuch are made a lot easier when you just walk 100ft away from the quest giver and see the entrance.

I bought it on Sunday, and I played it through to the end of the character creation sequence.
I'm not going to play any further until I get a video card to do it justice, because I don't want to play at 800x600 without the bells and whistles. (stuck with a 9800Pro, ATM)
Willpower, baby :D

That's nothing, I'll probably have to wait 2 months to get a graphics card capable of even running it :p

Oh yeah? That's nothing. Not only have I got to not play the game when I could but I've also got to milk a yak.

That's nothing. We live in one room, all hundred and twenty-six of us, no furniture. Half the floor is missing; we are all huddled together in one corner for fear of falling!
And on top of all that I won't get to play Oblivion for months!

Well me and my thirty-five orphan siblings have to live in a volcano, with only steaming hot, poisonous magma to feed and clothe us.

Woohoo! Just received my Preorder Amazon notice. Oblivion will be shipped out today (27th) and I should be expecting it by April 3rd.
I made my preorder all the way back in February... about time! :p

Apart from HDR, I don't think you really need to miss an awful lot on that card. Yes, it will be nicer with everything maxed out at high resolution, but I find it quite enjoyable at 800 by 600, despite the blockiness of any objects at a distance. I'll have to see what else I can get away with, as the texture draw distance is a little short.
Still, it will be at least 6 months before
I can contemplate computer upgrades due to various expensive things going on so I may as well just enjoy playing the game with what I have.
