It's a feeling Glod is used to. The village, like others in the Dambovita region of Romania, is populated mainly by gipsies who say they are discriminated against by the rest of the country.
They misspelt it (ctrl-f won't work). ;)

'They got paid so I am sure they are happy. These gipsies will even kill their own father for money.'
And they're upset about Borat. So what's the story on (
http://www.vdare.com/sailer/euro_gypsies.htm) Gypsies/Roma? Is it ok to make fun of them, are they off-limits, or can only a Roma version of Sasha Baron Cohen do that?

I was disappointed by this movie, and I wasn't even that excited to see it. I feel sorry for people who had seen more of the hype and would have expected more.
I understand what he was doing, but I think the problems came down to presentation and Cohen's apparent mediocre skills at manipulating people. I haven't seen his show, but after seeing this movie I don't reckon it's very good.
For me, the only funny parts of this movie were (mostly) the scenes that involved making fun of ignorant Americans. And, unfortunately, he even managed to fuck most of those up.
There was no subtilty at all. He basically shot his load too soon in every scene. They were funny, but in almost all the cases (except for the church scene, the rodeo "gay-hanger" scene, and the ghetto scene), he either didn't "close the deal", or he was so inept at getting the funnies out the people that he resorted to comedy that was either mean, fecal-related, or otherwise dumb.
He interview Bob Barr, and Alan Keys, and both went nowhere. Seriously, he said something stupid right out the gate, got a weird look from them, and that was it.
He interviewed some goofy feminists, which could have been fantastic, but he obviously fucked it up because they clearly cut out most of the interview. There was so much material there that didn't get tapped AT ALL.
The rest of the movie was full of gross humor, or humor that had no value except to make people feel uncomfortable, or scenes that were so obviously staged it was sad (ex. Pamela Anderson). I'm not surprised at all that the fratboy scene was staged. They were obviously posing for the camera, and saying things that were clearly over-the-top (slavery would be good? Give me a break.) I've known these type of the people, and they're plenty funny on their own. He should have just gone to Appalachian State and hung out for a while.
The thing that pisses me off is that this really could have been fantastic. Cohen should takes some lessons from some of those Daily Show interview guys they used to have.

I'm sure everyone's heard of the "Throw the jew down the well song". It (
http://isteve.blogspot.com/2006/11/all-borat-all-time.html) turns out that the owner of the bar he sang that at, and who laughed along throughout the song, was also jewish and that the crowd was in on the joke as he sang plenty of earlier verses that didn't air about throwing his mother, sister and so on down the well. And that segment is (
http://www.slate.com/id/2152772/) supposed to be some sort of chilling glimpse into the dark underside of American society or whatnot.

Man, people take this stuff way too seriously. I never saw the Ali G show. But it seems to me the movie was making some very bad things seem to be what they are, which is retarded. Antisemitism, homophobia, sexism, racism, nationalism... its all freaking brain dead and deserves to be ridiculed.
Not gonna change the world, but maybe make a few people laugh and talk about painful subjects with a grin. After hearing about the "Throw The Jew Down The Well" song, I tend to think a lot in the movie was staged as well. So what? It's funny shit. Relax and laugh, for cryin' out loud!
And now I need to find the Ali G show on DVD.:erg:

I went and saw it last night and thought it was 100% awesome on all levels of awesomeness. I never laughed so much in a movie. But it was less funny then Ali G though.
Then later I got to thinking people can be really stupid and succumb to dumb shit all the time. Anybody who didn't punch Borat in the kite or tell him to fuck off five seconds after meeting him or actually going along through his stunts deserves the reprucussions. They cry about it and play the defenseless victim and threaten to sue him, and they didnt have the ability to stand up to him, much less read the contract before they signed.
He's married to Isla Fisher which I think is just wholly unfair.

At first, the crowd cheers his words supporting America's war, but then as his statements grow more outrageous with "George W. Bush will drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq", the crowd stops cheering.
In fact, they start booing.
Funny, I just saw the movie and it seemed to me they only started booing when Borat sang that other countries are run by little girls. At the blood-drinking comment there seemed to be cheering, too, with maybe the exception of a few puzzled faces.
Anyways, the movie had its funny moments, but it wasn't great. Also, it didn't reveal anything new about the americans of redneck areas.
