The local reviewer said that Borat takes outlandish positions to get people to reveal their own hidden prejudices. Is that a fair take?I'm not an ALI G fan as I don't see any point in making peolpe look stupid just for a laugh.I doubt whether tha person learns anything from the experience.

paloalto, read what OnionBob said earlier, it nails it right on the head.
Oh, and as for anti-Semitism, Sasha Baron Cohen is at the very least of Jewish parentage. It's like those wacky blacks when they call each other "nigga", except not

well quite possibly those at the receiving end perhaps learn a little about themselves and then
WHO FUCKING CARESThe movie was funny as shit and for the most part lacked the awkward, mean-spirited humor that makes most prank shows intolerable. Go see it or don't, but for god's sake let's put this SATIRE FOR GOOD OF SOCIETY shit to rest.
Edit: Noid got there first

Baron Cohen is engaged to Australian actress Isla Fisher, and the pair plan to wed in a traditional Jewish wedding. Fisher pledged to convert to Judaism before the wedding, and received the blessing of Baron Cohen's devout Jewish parents. According to film producer Jay Roach, Baron Cohen is also himself devout; Roach told reporters that Baron Cohen keeps kosher and will not use the phone on the Sabbath.
Well there you go I suppose.

Wow, good to learn that one old school Home and Away fan got to live the fantasy of so many.

The more I think about the movie, the less it bothers me. As I said in the first post, I was kind of in shock. I was completely blindsided by the movie, having known next to nothing about it when I went to see it. ll I knew is my friends wanted to see it, it was supposed to be funny, and it was supposed to be very politically incorrect.
Upon reflection, I think among my very favorite lines was :
"What? You mean the man who wanted to put a rubber fist in my anus was a homosexual?
Delivered with admirable shock, horror, and incredulity.
Oh and the scene with
the bear in the ice cream truck window scaring the bejesus outta the kiddies
was awesome. :cheeky:

Does he ever change his role in the movie? On the Ali G show he played a punk from Hamburg in America and it was extremely convincing. Even to the point where he sudddenly talked to the camera guy in perfect German.

That guy is Bruno - he's a fashion journalist, and no, this film is all about Borat.
the rights to a Bruno film have already been bought, though (according to Wiki) so expect that film out in a year or two, assuming Borat keeps doing so well.

And the other shoe drops.
(
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061110/ap_on_en_mo/film_borat_lawsuit) Humiliated frat boys sue 'Borat'
If they manage to pull this off, this movie is going to get sued out of existence. I'm sure everyone hoodwinked in the film will be watching this suit closely.
So how much of a case do they have? Can release forms be declared null and void if initially presented under false pretenses?

Why am I not surprised? This is the land of frivolous lawsuits. I had planned to see this tomorrow, so I guess I better not miss it now.
"Mommy, they made me get drunk & make an ass out of myself."
"That's OK, dear. We'll get rich by suing these horrible people."
