I honestly don't understand why they keep making these.
I mean, okay, I do (money) - I guess I don't understand why people keep wanting more of them.

Same reason people keep eating Big Macs I guess.

Because you haven't seen the film or read the books?
You lose.
I have 24 hours of Holmes films with many different actors including the silent with J. Barrymore as Holmes. All take liberties, as do most movies from books. But all hold fairly close to the original character of the character.
I may see the Holmes film. It may be entertaining, but the trailer and farcical actions used to characterize Holmes, is not Holmes. Entertainment, perhaps but not Holmes. And I also have every one written by Doyle, another dozen pastiches, and an annotated anthology of the Conan Doyle stories.
Haven't seen the film, true. I may, but it's not on my To Do list.
And when it appears, if ever, I may even see the Bond film.
I have every Bond story written by Fleming and the Connery Bond approach was the best. Roger Moore was a little to cutesy. Dalton was a little more gritty, but all the movies were slicked up a bit. Which is to be expected.

If you do see it, you should post about it in the right thread.

Actually you do. I was only talking about Holmes so spare me the Fleming stuff.
I've seen the film as have people I know who are fans of the books. I have never read a Sherlock Holmes but people I know who have, and who have seen the new film, assure me that aside from the few jokey bits (like the bit in the trailer with the pillow and the key) its a pretty good adaption. There is actually quite a lot of deducting, and its pretty interesting. Yes, they could have done more and would have preferred that but you can't have it all.
I note that you whine about "gratuitous sex and potty humour" in your "hormonally deprived" thread. Its probably best that you see the film before commenting instead of forming an opinion based on a trailer that is designed to appeal to everyone.

Yeah, you lose if you can't handle Downey's Holmes. "Entertainment!" he cries. Wtf is a movie supposed to do, then?
