License to Kill has more cheese than The Living Daylights, Goldfinger and From Russia with Love?!! We're clearly not singing from the same sheet Scots. LtK is one of the best Bonds imho. Of all the other Bonds Dalton was the closest to Craig in darkness, just less vulnerable, not as hard and just that bit more serious.
Problem is that although there are central flavours to the Bond films different Bonds and eras vary in their level of seriousness, campness and knowing cheesiness. Makes it difficult to compare and rank them.
Ok GBM, I can see how Flash Gordon is crap if by that you mean wonderfully over the top, camp and naff in a lovable and awesome fashion.

Ah, that's a good one.
Personally, I have softspots for Thunderball and Goldfinger. Most of them for the wrong reasons. Thunderball is funny because Bond blackmails a nurse into having sex with him, and it's passed off as a joke. Goldfinger I'll probably remember most from a conversation I had with a friend years ago about whether or not Bond technically rapes Pussy Galore.

Ironically, I have all the Bonds before me and was set to start trawling through them a while back. My comments thus far are based on viewings up to over 10 years old. Tonight I find my copy of Dr No is fucked so I'm starting again with From Russia With Love, there's very little cheese quality in this movie to me now (only a bit in) and from memory, it seemed more like a solid spy thriller (with that fucking awesome intro and fight on the train) than the sort of camp volcano villain bullshit that it devolved into.
That's not to say that I can't enjoy those elements (I did list License to Kill and The Spy Who Loved Me) but it's when they work together in a cohesive way. Unfortunately most of the Bonds were horrible mishmashes of parody, camp and serious spy thriller that I can't help but dislike them. Still, they almost all have some entertainment value, except Moore's smugness derails nearly every single one he stars in. I probably enjoy (consistently) Brosnan's the most because Bond is pretty pure throughout, despite the changes in environment. Even
The World Is Not Enough and
Die Another Day have some utterly brilliant bits of Bond action that cannot be ignored.

There seems to be some kind of a campaign to get Muse to make the title track for the movie. Some British radio-dj is going on about it and gathering support.

Muse would actually not be a terrible choice, though I always thought Diana Krall could belt out a great theme in line with For Your Eyes Only etc.

Except that Muse lyrics are about as pro government as Rage Against the Machine.

I don't see how, with the return of Portishead, there can be discussion of anyone being more appropriate to create the next Bond theme. I submit Sour Times as Exhibit A, and Beth Gibbons as Exhibit Hot.

Agreed.
And holy what the fuck, welcome back and where have you been?

I think if I hear one more word about Amy Fucking Winehouse, I might actually become an alcoholic.
