Noone expected this to be a masterpiece or anything. And it isn't. It is a brave effort though, one that tries very hard. Too hard at times. Like on the pretend-drunk "I wish I was in New Orleans" and the 80's-pop styled "I don't wanna grow up". There are a few songs that Johansson, Sitek and company pull of quite well though. The first five tracks (Fawn, Town with no cheer, Falling Down, Anywhere I lay my head, Fannin Street) succeed quite well in creating a very pleasant mood, even if they don't move you in the same way they did in their original versions. The pick of the litter is defenitely lead-single Falling Down which, after a few listen I must say, is really lovely.
My verdict: 4/10

I don't care who's "better"; supposedly it's always Dylan. But I really like Tom Waits.

So, who's listening to Scarlett Johansson's new album of Waits-covers then?
Yeah, it isn't bad at all. I was expecting a lot worse anyway. I don't really understand the motivation behind the album though - 'Actress Previously Thought Airhead Until Covered Waits?' dunno. It reminds me of Nico without the German accent
