I'll second Son House and the Black Keys. At least, the Black Keys most recent album "Rubber Factory."
Especially the song "Stack Shot Billy."
Blind Willie Johnson has a really good, gruff voice, which supposedly influenced Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits. I've only heard Tom Waits, so I can't say yay or nay regarding Captain Beefheart. Some would say Blind Willie is more gospel blues, but yes.
Also, supposedly Robert Johnson's King of the Delta Blues singers (vol's 1 and 2) has better sound quality than the complete recordings...and they don't include alternate takes immediately in sequence after the final song versions.
Research what is reputed to have the best sound.

All right, all right.. But you have to admit, most of the songs on Kind of Blue
are variations of 12-bar blues.

All I can admit is Miles Davis can kiss my ass and thank me for the experience.
I know jazz is this big wonderful world of improvisation in which all true music connoisseurs at least winter but it still sounds to me like children getting their teeth pulled.
I'm down with the blues, however.

Well, blues IS easier.
Stitch on 12/2/2006 at 07:33
Which has fuck all to do with why I can't stand jazz.
