I get the blue screen of death when I try patching to 1.0004 or 1.0005. The patch says it installed, and then when I try to play, I get some sort of error I can never see before my computer reboots.
Win Xp SP2
Intel P4 3.0 GHz Hyperthreading
Direct X 9.0c
BFG nVidia 7800 GS AGP 128 MB card
163.71 drivers
2GB RAM 400 DDR
Then I have to uninstall S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and reinstall it.
I don't mind playing the original version, but patched problems would be nice. Oh, and I got the BSOD when I tried multi-player. Didn't crap out til I connected with a server.

It would greatly help to know what that error says, but I'm not aware of a way to make the BSoD stay longer or take a screenshot of it. This gives me an idea, you got a fancy digital camera and good reflexes by any chance?
Until we find out what the BSoD is whining about, we can't really fix anything.

System -> Advanced - Startup and Recovery -> Settings - System Failure -> Tick off Automatically restart.
This should make the BSoD stay up... well, forever untill you reset the PC yourself.
Not that it will help you much anyway, unless you know what "at 0028:C0011E36 in VXD VMM(01) + 00010E36" means.
All I can tell you is that BSoD is always a hardware problem. Try rolling back the drivers(There's an option for it in Device Manager) or update them if there are new ones.
