Yeah, I've read it is possible to KO Gunther. It's supposed to be a real pain to pull off though.

I don't know about Gunther, but as far as I can tell Anna is impossible to KO. I've gotten her down to almost no health where I can kill her by hitting her in the foot, but tranqs and the stun prod still don't have any effect. I've done this both on the 747 and during the break from UNATCO HQ.

Ha, once before entering the UC area, I set a LAM for Simons to soften him up but it worked too well. When I re-entered the drilling chamber, both he and the LAM weren't there.

As for using bioelectric cells: nope. NPCs can't use them. Probably it was the sound of his plasma rifle reloading, as that has a similar sort of tone.
That explains it. I'm not a fan of the heavy weapons and don't have much experience with them.

The easiest way to KO Gunther is as follows:
Step into room.
Take out sniper rifle.
Shoot two unscoped rounds into his head. He should start running.
Get out your dart gun and fire 4 or so darts into him. He should get knocked unconcious real soon.

Yes, I knocked him unconcious and took him with me to Everett's.
Simons dies to one LAW shot, by the way.
