Searched around the forums to see if anyone had said something about this and could find anything (which was somewhat surprising), so here goes.
Avatar, 2009 movie, directed by James Cameron.

In case you are wondering "wtf did I just watch" I should tell you that my first thought was "hey, cool, space, dead guys and a foreign planet, can't be wrong!" after which "oh wait... they're made of plastic... uhm... I mean cgi". After which I was wondering why the hell in a future where you can create organisms and move someones conscience from one body to the other... you still have a guy in a wheelchair thinking about how bad life is.
In a more serious note (hardly), the elves... I mean... aliens, apparently have a touching story that goes places and... oh who am I kidding, that was a cutscene from a new unreleased blockbuster game in which the story... man fuck the story! A guy in a wheelchair... in a universe where one conscience can be moved from body to elf, I mean, alien?
But, the story or better said the movie idea, came to the director 14 years ago apparently (or so I read somewhere). I guess we didn't have WoW and the gazillion of free online jrpg-ftp-mmos. Still...

only the GREATESTER DIRECTOR EVAH!!!
Seriously though, isn't a bit of a  moment when a film's advertising consists mostly of a director's/actor's/writer's name plastered all over it without any indication as to why its actually good?

blah, blah, blah, elves
Apparently you're blind. The Navi are clearly anthropomorphic
cat people.

That's funny I thought they were a greater form of crustaceans that sacrificed they're exoskeleton for greater speed and agility.... and a blue elf visage. Damnit I must learn moar about these intricate beings.
Seriously though, why the hell couldn't they give that guy robotic legs or something. It wouldn't be that hard considering it's the future and they can move around the souls of people.
