Blowing up Diego? And more. - by Unregistered

I am playing System Shock 1 for the first time. On the Hacker's Guide to Sin, it suggests laying a trap on the Flight Deck for Diego:
"Before you blow up the reactor core and try to escape, place a nice selection of earthshakers mines and frag grenades at the bottom of the escape pod ramp.
Place all the explosives on the central triangle of the floor, with a live landmine."
It shows a picture of the bottom of the escape pod ramp. Question: Is the escape pod ramp in that nexus areas near Cargo Bay 2 [I think] where you can get to a number of locations in the level from? Are those escape pods in question the ones where the male computer voice says it won't let you on yet as there is no emergency? So I just go to the bottom of that and lay the exposives?
I have just finished the Flight Deck level [got all devices and files, killed the Cortex Reaver, blown up security] so is this a good time to lay them or should I wait for later in the game?
After Flight Deck, should I go to the storage level to make some pickups, or head straight to the executive level?

Don't do such a cowardly thing. Fight Diego when you encounter him! And stop using any sort of guides. As for where to go, follow what objectives need doing. If you haven't been to deck 4 yet, go there.

The escape pods are indeed the ones you describe. If you do want to lay the trap, now is a good time to do it. You won't be returning to that place until you meet Diego.
I'd go to Storage first if I were you. There are things there that you'll need in the later stages of the game.

Not to mention things that you won't need, but which will help immensely, like a large stash of Magpulse ammo.

To AxTng1: I think everyone has fallen into that trap at least once.
Speaking of that trap on deck 5, last time I was there I used the Riot Gun and took one of those mines through the level. Took me 12 saves to get the mine in the right position just to get it out of the pit and another 4 to get it up the ramps.
One thing i've learned from that experience is that you don't piss off the mines.
