I feel oddly compelled to read this thread but I've got the flu and I'm afraid my head would explode.

Then perhaps you can actually make sense of it...

Well, the Christians may not be fit to make such demands (though they do), but the Jews most certainly will.

Being that here are numerous "transliterations" of the Bible extant. You scholars and dilettantes might find this of interest. Compare the KJ with the Darby and other versions. (NIV, NIV-UK, Darby, WYC etc.)

Well Gaylesaver, you're talking with people who aren't jews; you need to adopt the norms of public discourse, where you're only given so much rights as secular society will allow. If we were all religious jews, then you could say "messianic jews have no right to our culture", and we'd agree; since we're not, we'll tend to think "your culture? Did you patent it?".
In other words, when speaking to people outside your "closed society", it's no use invoking the norms of your "closed society" in order to apply them to people outside your closed society. The outsiders fall under the rules of the wider, open society (civil, national, secular..).
Maybe I've misunderstood the whole debate, but happily in this case I won't be blamed for it.

I'm not invoking the norms. I'm describing my reaction.

Then, for future discourse on any subject, so state. "My personal view is..." Or "My opinion and reaction is..." Rather than a blanket, all encompassing, flat statement.
In MY opinion, every religion has some validity. They all are aimmed at reaching the same goal. They just have chosen different routes to get there.
To get from where you are, to where you want to go, in life, as in reaching a "holy sanctuary" there are many differing roads one can travel.

Yeah: controlling the people - if you're talking about organised religion ;)

Noted. But you will, in turn, note that I was speaking for Jews in general.
