I already posted this in ARX SPOILERS (mistakenly):
I just started playing Arx and I'm having some problems. I've fixed some issues by refering to the FAQ, but a couple remain. Here's my specs:
INTEL PENTIUM 4-C 3.2 GHZ 800MHZ FRONT-SIDE BUS
2 x KINGSTON 512MB DDR PC3200 I
ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 256MB (Catalyst 3.8)
INTEL D875PBZ MOTHERBOARD
CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER AUDIGY 2 PLATINUM 6.1
LOGITECH Z-680 5.1 THX SPEAKERS
WIN XP Pro
DirectX 9.0b
Here's my problems:
1. EAX keeps turning itself off automatically
2. When credits roll, they are running way off screen (widthwise, running @ 1280*1028)
3. And the big one, floor switches and secret doors turn all black when close to them (textures just disappear). When I was near the "Unstable Wall", near the beginning where the two spiders are, there was a tangle of blackness when I walked in front of it. In other words, the texture on the wall disappeared, but the blackness kind of spiderwebbed into the hallway as well.
I have already changed to cfg.ini file for the typical ATI Radeon problem (softfog=1) and enabled Alternate Pixel Center in the Direct 3D Compatability Options.
Can you guys help?

Hmnn... I have almost the exact same specs as you, but I haven't experienced any of those graphical problems. I haven't even made any changes to either the ATI control panel or cfg.ini: both of these are at their default settings. Have you applied a recent patch for Arx? (I'm using 116a) My Radeon driver version is 6.14.10.6368.
As far as your EAX is concerned though, I also have to re-enable it every time I play - which is a bit annoying. I also had that problem with NWN before they released their first patch though.

I've installed the 1.17 patch. Do I need to install the patches separately? I guess I assumed that the current patch would include the previous ones. I using the Catalyst 3.8 drivers for my video card (just got that a couple weeks ago). So I don't know. Maybe I'll send a message to support. I fixed the EAX problem by installing the EAX drivers off of the ARX CD (I updated my audio drivers also, buy I think it was the drivers that fixed it).

You did choose ATI as your videocard from the drop-down list though didn't you?

I've just installed the latest Catalyst drivers (wxp-w2k-catalyst-7-93-030812a1-010735c-efg) to see if there is any problem there but I'm still able to play the game without any problems what-so-ever. My suggestion is that you try applying all ATI settings to default and try uninstalling then reinstalling the latest drivers.

Thanks for your help, twisty.
I did select ATI as my video card.
I noticed another graphical issue that may be tied to the same source. From a distance, wall textures look fine. But when I get close, it looks like two layers of texture separate a little bit like they aren't aligned properly. The effect is just a real blurry wall that you can't focus on.
Also, I thought something else might be worth mentioning (I haven't uninstalled and reinstalled like you suggested yet). I have the RAGE 3D TWEAK active on my PC, from use with Thief. Could this be causing the problem. Below are the instructions I followed for it, via the Thief FAQ.
ATI Radeon cards and fog in Thief II
Steps to fix the fog:
1) Download the program available here.
2) Install it
3) After the required restart, run the program and go to the Rage3D tweak tab. Double click "Direct 3D", then scroll down till you see the box "W Fog". Uncheck this box. Also make sure "Table fog", and "Z Fog" are both checked, and if they aren't, check them. Press OK. You should now be able to see fog in the game. (Reference Thread, with additional steps in case this does not work.)
Maybe this is the problem?

Its quite possible. I don't mind not having fog in Thief 2 as there aren't many missions that have it anyway.
On my Geforce 3 - which was the card I had before the Radeon - I was unable to see any stars or clouds, which was very annoying considering that they rendered perfectly on my Geforce 2 & TNT, which were the cards I had before that.
