Greetings!

First let me say that I've searched, researched, checked and studied the FAQ, multiple forums, chicken entrails and the stars.

Here's the skinny:

Installed Thief Gold. On XP machine (Q6600, 2gig RAM, 8800gts). Start game. Everything working, sound works, videos play. Start new game. On level loading, screen goes black. No sound. No sight. Nothing. The end. Tried every compatibility mode. Darkloader to no effect. DDFix to no effect. Single-core affinity, no effect. Sacrificing family pets, entertaining, but no effect.

Even stranger (or perhaps not strange at all): I installed on my Vista x32 laptop out of curiosity, and the exact same thing happens.

So, what do you think?

Have I overlooked something obvious, or do the Gods demand more blood?

Yes, I have read the BIG RED FAQ and the only thing that addresses the problem is (http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75031#texturememory) This but I executed that fix to no avail. To repeat the problem:

I start up the game, running Vista 32 in Win98 Compatibility as an Administrator. The game starts fine, and I hit 'New Game'. The cutscenes play, and then I go to the equipment screen, choose my equipment, and press play. The game tabs out, then tabs back in, to a black screen that freezes. I get no error message, no anything. So I Ctrl Alt Delete it.
Please help!
