The absolute dumbest thing is that they have these sales on a single day, instead of spreading it out over the entire weekend. Lord knows how many potential sales retailers lose to those of us who aren't willing to deal with the crowds.
I suspect that a weekend-long sale would make it a lot harder to cultivate this sense of urgency that they rely on. People get door-smashingly desperate because they're afraid they won't get at the limited number of loss-leader items before they're all gone, and for that relatively low cost, the store gets a lot of people in the door ready to buy their more profitable crap. This sort of bullshit is very carefully calculated to maximise profits. On that note, since the people behind these sales know exactly what they're encouraging, both the management and the company should be held responsible when someone is injured or killed.

Yeh exactly, I work in retail (sometimes), the sales do go all weekend, or all week, not just one day, but they have the BIG sales on the first day, to get people in the mood for spendin some cash.

My mother gets very upset when people make fun of Walmart shoppers. Her logic is that these people go shopping at Walmart, often in the late hours, to avoid being stared at or they work late or so on and so forth and are thus not to be mocked.
It's sad how much she cares for people at the bottom of the barrel. If the bottom of the barrel actually gave a shit about themselves they'd stop being at the bottom of the barrel or they wouldn't have gotten there in the first place.

Were you punched by a redneck as a child? I always thought you were supposed to feel sorry, or at least pity the freaks down at Wal Mart, not hate them...
june gloom on 1/12/2008 at 08:36
Oh don't get me wrong, I do feel sorry for them. That doesn't preclude making fun of the woman who has 5 kids named Leshaun and she tells them apart by their last names, or the entire family wearing NASCAR apparel.
Also I live among rednecks so I have an excuse for not having any patience for these inbred motherfuckers

I agree to a large extent but just wanted to add 2 things. Firstly, some people are just unable to help themselves - disadvantaged start and so on, or just no ability at all. Second, and I don't mean to be a dick since you've kind of grown on me, but didn't I level the same thing at you a while back to which you replied "It's HARD man!" or something?
OT: Stampede for sales is... ahh, what Scots said.

I can't help but feeling moved by your heartfelt pity for the subhuman walmarters. And let's not forget all these blacks voted for Obama, right? So they're not completely useless when guided by a charismatic leader.
SubJeff on 1/12/2008 at 12:49
you're the one sounding subhuman right now

Ah yes, I remember that. I'm not quite at the bottom of the barrel though. I have a way out and I'm
trying to get out. These people would rather sit where they are than make an effort to better themselves.

For the past 5 years or so I have always done my Christmas shopping just after Helloween; this way I can avoid all this mayhem on Black Friday. Not to get off topic here; but I thought I would just throw in my 2 cents worth. :cheeky:
