Hey everyone! I've got one that is a bit of a head scratcher today. I haven't even been able to find any examples of the same behavior with some web scouring although I have found similar ones where a few icons went missing or the right click stopped working.
The issue is simple: I can not see any icons on my desktop, nor can I right click, EXCEPT in the small square in the top left where icons are visible. All content is still visible if I view the desktop through explorer.
I've got no idea. No major changes occurred to the system before this started happening:

This looks like it could be caused by Windows somehow being stuck believing it is running at a different desktop resolution than it actually is. I never encountered such a problem before but I would start by switching to a different resolution then switching back. And then maybe cleanly uninstalling your graphics card driver and installing it again.
Unless it's related to a desktop management application. Would you have any virtual desktop or remote desktop utility installed by any chance?

Interesting....thanks. Doing it manually worked.
I'd discounted the possibility until now because the problem had survived several reboots. I figured that if the problem persisted after re-initializing the computer's graphics system then it wasn't a resolution issue.

Or not.
Now I'm experiencing a glitch where most 3D games won't start. I get a series of black boxes in different sizes as if Windows is trying to find a screen resolution that works followed by the game either crashing or in the case of receiver it starts in a 540x380 window....it works fine in certain resolutions and then only if run in a window.

Windows might think you're using two monitors, and it could be spreading the icons across both of them. The usual disaplay settings should indicate how many it's expecting.

Windows is defiantly not happy with something. As it all display related -
* uninstall the display driver
* run driver sweeper 3.2.0 to remove any remnants of the old driver.
* reboot and then reinstall the latest video driver.
