I'm kind of losing interest in this game now Dishonoured's come along.

BS2 let you turn off all the handholding (which there were quite a few options for)... I can't remember if the first one did, but I don't remember it being as extensive to begin with, either.

I can't exactly put my finger on it, but something about Bioshock's audio/visual aesthetic just irritates the piss out of me. Maybe it's that they're trying to be shiny and retro at the same time.

I know what you mean. I think I mentioned in another thread how I found that the cartoon-style jarred (for me) with the intended eeriness of the setting. I think it's too much of a caricature of itself.

I'm with ZB, I hated the cartoony carricature look where everyone's head and hands seem too big for their bodies, yet their faces are too natural. The environments also seem cartoonish mish-mash when you think about it, with some realistically modeled, and others inproportionately enlarged. As faetal points out, the game trying to be serious and scary while having these Disney-esque features only serves to further hi light the contrast.

I was particularly fond of the trolley line which went about two blocks from start to finish. :p

That's not actually too different from the "new" Cincinnati streetcar route. :p

Not following the logic there. You can't have interest in both?
Muzman on 12/12/2012 at 06:50
Of course. When it comes to FP stuff I'm mostly on the look out for unusual material with a bit of an LGS flavour. For a long time this was the closest big name game there was (and we didn't know if there was much LGS flavour left in these games either. But I was willing to give it a shot). Now Dishonoured has come along, BIs promotional material can show it as a cutscene with intermittent Bioshock-brand shooting and I need not care at all

Yes there's something to the flare-y, specular-y high contrast-ness and all brass tubing etc that's thoroughly exhausting. The trailer's not too bad outdoors, but certain parts indoors took me right back to wincing through Bioshock.

It doesn't make me angry, but it doesn't pull me in. There's something a touch... tacky? about the
Bioshock art direction. I'm pretty sure I'll get this game (once it's come down in price), but on the whole I like their attempt to do something different in terms of setting and visuals better in theory than in practice.
