Well, I've been playing Episode 2 quite a bit - just got to Columbia - and I can confirm the stealth works quite well in this.
My main weapon is a crossbow with tranquiliser darts, gas bombs and 'noisemaker arrows'; haven't even used the shotgun once. You can use the 'freight hooks' to get the drop on splicers, and there's a new plasmid that lets you see through walls and turn invisible (I've even found two upgrades that let me do that for no cost if I remain stationary). Even the original vigors/plasmids have been tweaked accordingly, e.g. the upgrades for Possession let me take over turrets indefinitely and possessed humans now knock themselves unconscious, rather than killing themselves.

I've just finished Burial at Sea Episode 2 (in 1998 mode).
It's an incredible conclusion to the whole series. Incredible. If it comes to the story in video games... Burial at Sea (and Bioshock Infinite) has "inprinted" me (in Suchong's way). It is the best computer game story EVER. I was really, really moved at the end.
It's a pity Irrational Games is no more. I would love to see another DLC or Bioshock game.
New Thief really looks like shit in comparision with Burial at Sea Ep. 2.

Huh, that's funny. I played through Burial at Sea last month and thought "Wow, this stealth is shitty compared to new Thief." I actually didn't enjoy BAS2 very much at all, and the ending was even more confusing than Infinite's. RPS was dead right about it being shoehorned into the existing lore, even more so than Infinite (which I did love the story of).

I agree on the story (mostly), but the stealth I thought was actually pretty well done. It did get a little easy once you'd fully upgraded the Peeping Tom tonic, but otherwise I liked it.
ESPECIALLY considering this was a stealth mode bolted onto a game that was designed as a shooter, first and foremost.

Shame it wasn't in the main game as it fits that game like a glove.

Take-Two's CEO has had some comments on the franchise going forward with 2K Marin, so that does lend further credence to the idea that Infinite's commercial results were primarily blamed on Irrational, not the IP.
Curious to see what shape a future Bioshock would take. Never played 2, but between Infinite, Burial at Sea and the original, it feels like there's a neat enough bow on the arcs of Rapture and Columbia, so it's probably time for a new lighthouse. I wasn't a that big a fan of how the plot of Burial at Sea wrapped up its connection to the original Bioshock in the end, so I'd like to see them move on to new things.

Go play 2. It's far and away the best.

I might do if I find it on a rock-bottom sale. Thing is, I've already kind of spoiled the story for myself, and Bioshock's gameplay was never really more than passable for me, so much so that I didn't bother carrying on with the first one past the Ryan encounter.

Well the first one is basically only good up until the encounter with Ryan, so you made a good choice.
2 was decent from what I played of it, but it's quite buggy and I was unable to progress past level 6 as a result.

2 had more varied and strategic gameplay, but its atmosphere suffered, and the way it tried to shoehorn itself into the original story was a bit clumsy. Still worth playing, although I disagree with dethtoll. I think the first and third games were more impactful in terms of their presentations and atmospheres, and that's what I enjoy most about the series. Minerva's Den was a good expansion, but I often felt like I was having to endure the Bioshock 2 gameplay to get at the more interesting story.
