Did you ever use the skyrails against the Handymen? I seemed to die the least number of times against them whenever I hopped on the skyrails and just kept strafing them, making a gun run in one direction then hitting the reverse key to do the same in the other direction.
If that failed it was usually a panicky attempt to blast the thing's heart out at point blank range. Shock Jockey didn't seem to have as crippling an effect on them as I would have hoped.

I tended to use undertow to pin them down for a several seconds and hit them in the chest with RPGs. I also confess to abusing the clothing that gives you invulnerability when hopping on or off sky rails - it made a difference in a few locations. If I play though it again (in 1999 mode most likely) then I won't use that clothing as it seems a little too game-breaking.

Finished this earlier today.
The main narrative and the characters portrayed were good, but I have some problems with the game as a whole.
Firstly, why the hell does everything these days have to be a scavenger hunt with RPG Lite elements?
This was the first time in this series that I really felt these elements impacted my enjoyment of the game. I don't know, perhaps I'm just getting fed up of almost every big game that comes out these days following the same basic formula.
Secondly, yeah, I know it's kind of Bioshock's shtick, but boy am I getting fed up of game stories being naval-gazing commentaries on the nature of gaming. Yes, it's all very clever and meta, but it's beginning to get really fucking hackneyed.
Thirdly, while the game and overall aesthetic was exquisitely well put together, I hate it when game mechanics break the narrative and spoil moments of tension. That bit where Elizabeth got re-captured? Yeah, thanks to the placement of lockpicks and their corresponding locks in the map, I was never in any doubt that I was going to be re-united with her. Shoddy workmanship from the level designers there.
And finally, there was a point mid-way through where I didn't know if I could be arsed to finish it.
I'd clocked a lot of the major plot contrivances early on, and the gameplay itself with the over-reliance on scavenger hunts and shoddily implemented RPG mechanics? Well, they did nothing to further endear the game to me.
It had magical moments, but too many of those were spoiled by Irrational's lack of craft when it comes to making the bones of an actual game. Shooting never felt completely satisfying and lacked consistency, the powers were seemingly all variations on a theme and Elizabeth would still GET THE FUCK IN MY WAY WHEN I WAS TRYING TO GET THROUGH DOORS.
Still, it looked pretty and had great voice acting.
Like Bioware, I wonder if Irrational would be better off admitting that they'd like to be making movies instead.

Ugh I know exactly what you mean and hate that. So many games try to be tense or whatever, but the tension is instantly broken as soon as you see the conveniently placed gameplay mechanic / closed escape hatch / specific resources etc. It's like every time you see a stash of granades, rockets or a save point, you already know something big is coming. so much for a surprise.

Has anyone played the 'Clash in the Clouds' DLC for BI yet? Just wondering if it's worth $4.99.
Jason Moyer on 5/8/2013 at 14:45
I don't want to say it looks crap, because I enjoyed BSI's combat, but it's basically entirely combat-focused. It's part of the season pass so I'm waiting to see what the proper DLC looks like then I'll just get that.

I'd wondered about the 'season's pass' thing. Guess I'll just sit back & wait for the DLC too. Thanks Jason.

If you haven't seen it, the first story DLC is going to be Burial At Sea:

I hate this game for being a game and not movie. DLC will not make any better for me unless it is like more like return to Von Braun/Citadel than to Rapture. But I love this guy and his videos:cheeky: ...

Er, that video basically has the exact opposite effect on me that I'm guessing the guy intended. He chose to get drunk and kill a bunch of people who weren't attacking him, then chose to play guitar for Elizabeth. I don't see how you can blame the game's pacing on the player's schizophrenia. Skyrim's pacing isn't broken because I can slaughter a town full of innocent people, then play hide and seek with a kid.
