You're probably best off heading back down to medical to do a spot of hybrid farming with the wrench. Once you've scraped up enough nanites, buy a recycler.

ooh never noticed them before, but google tells me they're exactly what I need. The only firearm I've been using is the pistol, and I've saved up quite a few shotgun shells and grenades.

Every OSA character should get the recycler, because you can recycle things that you can't use Molecular Transmutation on. But... if your get your PSI stat high, the nanite yield from Molecular Transmutation may be high enough to yield a net profit vs. recycling, even considering the PSI cost. I think I used Molecular Transmutation on ammo and grenades, but only after maxing out my PSI stat and using the impant and PSI booster to get a PSI stat of 8. You may want to google that to find out where the break even point is.
Anyway, you're on the Rec level, right? There is a replicator in the mall that will sell you a recycler if you hack it. That's your best choice. There is also one back on Ops, but it's in a location where you're likely to be attacked by hybrids and spiders while you hack it. Once you get the recycler, you can go back through the previous levels and scavenge. Almost everything you can pick up can be recycled. Everyday items only get you 1 nanite, but if you're desperate, they add up.

Using the recycler is a very cheap way of getting "health insurance". Recycle 5 food items (soda, chips, alcohol) and you have paid for a medbed usage which will max out your health. More effective than using up dozens of food items. :p

Reading this reminds me of my first experience with SS2. I fucking HATED this game the first time I played it. When I finally beat it, I changed my pants, took a deep breath, and realized: This is the first game I've EVER played that made me sweat and scream and run and cry and hide and dread confrontations. It's not a relaxing game, but it did make me work for the win. It's different from Thief in that you don't spend a lot of time skulking in the shadows planning your next move. It's very much a survival game - if you've ever been in a survival situation, this is almost exactly what it's like. You spend most of the time thinking "Oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit", jumping at every noise because you know you can't win a fight with anything right now, and pillaging every box and body you can find for ammo, food, etc. When I realized what the game had accomplished, I was really impressed. Went back and played it as Navy, thoroughly enjoyed it, and am now trying it for the first time as OSI (hoping it doesn't break as usual mid-way through the game).
SS2 is not for sissies.

I had the game for years, I played the training and hated it because I couldn't get out the first friggin door, lol.
But I kept it and over the years I would keep hearing things about it. People had it in the top fav games etc.
So when I finally did give it a fair shake I played it for 80 hours over a 7 day period:weird: now it's in my top 10.

I'm jealous in a way. The first time I played SS2, I chose Normal difficulty and disbaled respawning, and it was way too easy. So for my second play, I re-enabled respawning and played OSA on Hard. That was a satisfying challenge, but the fear and anticipation of what lies around the next corner is never quite the same after the first time.

I'm still afeared of the body of the many good and hard. And the spiders. MY GOD THE SPIDERS :(

BOTM started out as a good level, but the silly platform jumping kinda spoiled it for me and the end was just a slug fest.
Spiders - oh yes. I still get jumpy in that one spot in Ops D where you're in the middle of fighting a big battle and they sneak up on you from behind.

Finished! Shodan was easy, though I never really felt like I was super-powerful until that moment. Fortunately there were a ton of nanites in the final stage, so I stocked up on hypos. Didn't need any icepicks, either - I used my last modules on hack upgrades, and when the time came, it was a cinch.
A lot of people seem to complain about the ending... I thought it was funny.
Now I guess I'll go back and try a different field, though even if I did OSA again I think it would be quite different. I didn't really realize the usefulness of some of these powers until they end (I mean come on - when you start out, a power that says "increases your cyber-affinity by two for ten seconds + 15 seconds per PSI" is not exactly as enticing as something like SHOOT FIRE!).
