I think the strange beeping techno music in SS1 really screws up the atmosphere, don't you?
You can turn it off, you know? But I don't like SS1's music much either, I was surprised at how much praise it gets over here. I don't dislike it enough to turn it off, but I don't think it's very good either. The only tune that I think is somewhat memorable is the Level 6 tune. I really prefer SS2's music by a long shot.

No, actually i think the music is really good and sounds very "mechanic" and fits the scenario.
/edit: I just compared the two endings of SS1 and SS2

I think the music of SS1 just makes it more unique. Also, as i haven't played SS2 as often as SS1, how bad is the part of the ending where he says "nah" and Shodan screams ? I really do prefer the ending (well, and like mentioned, the overall game) of SS1 - including it's "strange beeping techno music" :)
I think the most memorable music pieces in gaming are also the ones that are most unique. I think of "a one winged angel" of the Final Fantasy 7 Soundtrack for some reason.
Well, yeah :I

Well, the SS2 ending is love it or hate it. I love it. It's certainly different from the bland one-liners you hear from action movie stars, and it seems like something the character might actually say. I doubt he'd concoct some special line on the spot.
I like SS1. I just think that there are a few things that break the immersion, one of them being the music. Especially when I'm running around on Medical.

Yeah well and SS2 doesn't have the same atmosphere as SS1, now what ?
I never played ss1 but i did try, just couldn't get it working. I can't even get SSII to work anymore.
So I don't care about SS1.

Yup, that first one is how it sounds. Is there something wrong with my PC?
By the way, I'm running around on Medical right now and I've got a few problems:
1. I always lose the cyberspace thing. I just don't seem to have enough time.
2. I don't know what I need to do or where to go.
3. How do I kill the freaking Hopper? All I have is a dartgun!
Oh well. I will persevere.

Are you using (

1. Be fast. Be patient. It takes time to find a way and what to do in cyberspace, so try again.
2. Read logs and emails.
3.
You need either pistol with teflon bullets or Magpulse. To get Magpulse you need to open doors near cyberjack. This requires little visit in cyberspace. Pistol is in CPU-room.

You'll come to appreciate that.
I love the way SS1 leaves it up to the player to figure out how to progress right from the beginning. All the information you need is there, you just have to explore, think, try.
I'm starting to get tired of playing games where an omniscient narrator character spoon feeds the game to you one little task at a time.

We face the same problem with Deus Ex I and II, only that II never got any SDK at all.
I'm kinda sad that the DX1 HDTP development has hit a brickwall, they can't animate the new high poly models that they created. The only hope rests on the success of that project working to port the game to the UT2k3 engine.

Hmm. I thought you get less and less time each time you fail in cyberspace? I might need to restart.

I can't find anywhere on Medical where I feel safe enough to read them...

And is it just me, or do the enemies do a LOT of damage? I mean, I got killed by a Cyborg Warrior on the first level- how the hell will I deal with Level 9?
