So, in summary
The kernel has been rewritten:
* Better security model
* Fewer reboots required by installs
* Fewer reboots required because of crashes
The firewall is up to a proper standard.
DirectX 10 is a rigorous specification and should annoy marketing droids the world over.
The UNIX-like security model has been a long time coming, but it alone should significantly reduce the vulnerability of the OS. Any other security improvements are a bonus.
A decent firewall as part of the OS? Again, a long time coming but if it works as advertised it'll be a very nice feature.
Rigorous specifications, leaving no room for 'interpretation', are an extremely Good Thing(TM). It's about time this was extended to the DirectX API.
So, minus the DRM, Vista's looking good.

I'm curious to see how DX10 will fare. If Vista population is too small then programming stuff for DX10 (and especially exclusively for DX10) might not be worth the effort. On the other hand, if they can somehow force the push then everyone with newer hardware'll be forced to get Vista just to get the most out of their purchase.
Or, OpenGL will become the big thing again, since it's not OS-restricted.

Okay, I have a few questions. If it's too early to know the answers, then I apologize in advance for asking.
1.) What will be the street prices for the various Vista editions and around when will they be available?
2.) Will the basic home edition be 64-bit like XP Pro x64? Will any of them?
3.) If Vista is 64-bit, will it be backward compatible so I can run all my existing applications and games, or will I have to buy some kind of update patch to get everything to work?

It probably won't have 16-bit support, so pre-Win95 games will be completely unsupported. It will almost certainly have 32-bit support though, since few apps ar 64-bit.

For instance one of the big changes in Vista is the graphical look of the interface itself - dubbed Aero. In Vista the familiar boxes, windows and icons on the desktop are modelled as 3D objects - just like in many computer games.
aaaahahahahaha
Why don't they just go back to calling it Windows Resource Pig Edition?

Truth is no longer a complete defense when Windows is involved.

but we all know what happened to him...
and does this mean we've come to the end of the rational thread?
