That criticism is utterly redundant for his 'Love Song' as it tells a story as it goes along, whereas the others - I fully agree- are gimmicky, even the very funny Portishead National Anthem.

I can sort of agree with the gimmicky nature of the songs and how not all of them are all that funny past the first 30 seconds, but I would most definitely say I found both 'Love Song' and 'Das Hokey Kokey' hilarious all the way through. The latter, clearly, since I'm a massive Kraftwerk fan.

http://www.ttlg.com/gbm/baileyfuzz.jpgKinda weird that Bill Bailey would be brought up lately... I was actually wandering around a few days ago with "Insect Nation" stuck in my head with no provocation at all. Starrfall realised something very important was weighing heavily on my gargantuan mind when I muttered "The spiders are not insects, but in a war they will
side with the insects... Traitors, traitors, spider traitors..."
Oh great now it's stuck in my head again.

Bailey is a very funny man. Love him on Buzzcocks. You should catch it some time Gray. The other day they had that Tourettes guy on it and he and Bailey had a ding-dong. Hilarious.
Gray on 10/2/2007 at 17:35
They don't show '...Buzzcocks' in my tiny little faraway country. They have shown 'Black Books' and 'Spaced', but I didn't start to pay any attention to either until about halfway through, and there haven't been any reruns of either, so far. But, given that both Bailey and 'Black Books' co-star Dylan Moran are appearing in the current Thursday-night-comedy-special-with-four-previously-little-known-to-our-viewers-Britons, perhaps that'll change.

I like Bill Bailey, but the trouble with this is that as with all "funny songs", you get the joke in the first ten seconds, laugh, and then have an awkward four and a half minutes not really knowing where to look as it is pitifully drawn out to fill time.
It's the ideal encore at a live show - when you already start to giggle when he pulls a face and are grateful for any more material. I saw him in Edinburgh at the '06 festival, and that's how he did it there. Afterwards you think: "That was funny... but I'm ready to head home now."

He's also been in a few episodes of Jonathan Creek.
Simon Pegg was in one episode of Black Books (playing an over-zealous rival bookshop owner), and Dylan Moran was a co-star of Shaun of the Dead.

I saw him in Edinburgh 2000 and i am pretty sure i had a good time. The only thing i really remember though is him slowing down a sample of Carol Vorderman's voice until her saliva clicks sounded like the inside of a slimy cave. Disgusting.
Gray on 10/2/2007 at 19:40
Yeah, I've been meaning to see 'Shaun Of The Dead', but not because I knew Bailey was in it, because I didn't, but because I thought Simon Pegg was rather funny in what little I did see of 'Spaced'. I just haven't gotten around to seeing it just yet. It's on my to-do list.
[Edit]
I realise now that I misread R Soul. I thought he said Bailey was in 'Shaun...', when he said Dylan Moran was. My mistake. As I said, I still haven't seen it.

Also Gray, a certain video-site-bought-by-a-search-engine could solve your lack of Buzzcocks TV.
