Fact is, the New Testament means fuck all without the Old Testament to contextualise and render meaning to it. Accept it all, or accept none, but don't try and pretend the two halves of the whole can be separated in any meaningful way.
Well-spoken. You are correct. This is exactly the point I'm trying to make, but from another angle. People on both sides are hyper-fixated on the Old Testament. Even when the New Testament is quoted these days, it's with old testament prejudice--which Christ attempted to correct, in a land where the Law was used to cause unending suffering. Christ offered a New way out from under the old Law of Sin & Death, and said golden rule summed up the whole point of the old laws.
