Bible, a source of ethical values? (Warning, religious thoughts!) - by Gorgonseye

You say you want a revolution? Even the cowards who don't do a damn thing in the name of change want change.
You can't wipe out religion without wiping out the religious. Religion, by your description, is akin to parents making up stories based on some facts, about--oh...I dunno--a "boogeyman", or some scary thing until a small child can finally find a reason to stop doing what the parents really don't want them to do. "See? That terrible thing happened because Tunk didn't listen." Or they'll come up with another lie to influence them like--hmmm--Kris Kringle and his naughty list. And that's when they're not stuffing sugary foods into their mouths because they outgrew pacifiers, baby bottles, and sippy cups. "If you stop whining we'll go get ice cream. Okay?"
How old do you think most children have to be before they realize certain behaviors bring consequences that any rational person with their eye on their future will know to avoid? What percentage of children show an understanding of why their parents work, what it means to "make a living", and investing and saving something now for a later day or year? How many children understand that they cannot always get what they want, nor should they? Can you grasp the multiple facets of what it is to be human, what it means to be a society? There are SO MANY behaviors that humans engage in that go back to caveman days. Religion is one set of them. Self-medicating is another. Spend your time and energy and fanaticism on eliminating reasons we look for relief from emotional, psychological, and physical pain.
And hey, cavemen got drunk off of fermented fruit, and hallucinated when they ate 'shrooms, but you sure as hell don't see humanity steering away from that, do you? How many lives have to be destroyed by addiction before you decide to throw yourself into wiping out
those human behaviors that go back to before the caveman? How many generations will come and go before humans stop doing the same damn things previous generations did, each thinking they were the originator?
We'd all like to see your plan for wiping out religious control without addressing the need for self-control, which most people are capable of enforcing, but only when they reach a certain psychological and emotional maturity. Without lies and superstitions and lies and fantasy coming through the television and other media, so many parents would be lost.:p Religions will keep forming as long as we desire to be a part of a community, AND as long as enough people don't govern their damn selves, and piss the majority off, and get laws made.
Where is the love, ScottaBeKiddin'?
I hope it's understood I'm speaking specifically to the idea of undesired control that the religious force upon us. I'm gonna go blow smoke in their faces and shit on their lawn to show my superior thinking.

Man, you people really FREAK OUT whenever a lil thing like social cleansing is mentioned. I guess I should have known... Just don't chock it up to ignorance cause I know aaaaall about the Christian lie machine. And don't call it some misplaced hatred, it's all very warranted, and just remeber, I hate you all equally. :cheeky: But I hate you not as individuals, but as the completely USELESS and complacent society you are, where nothing is sacred and tolerance is so sickly misplaced. Where political correctness and those who define it have you all locked down in their hampster-wheel system of consumtion and production...
ANYWAYS, just cause children can't grasp what they necessarily need to grasp doesn't justify feeding them lies. And as far as why not root out addictions instead? Cause addictions belong to the individual. You wanna smoke crack then go right ahead. It's your life. You start stealing and killing to feed your addiction? Don't blame it on the drug, that sorta behaviour can fall into any category of human being. Don't get me wrong, if you do hard drugs you're probably throwing your life away.
The problem I have with religion, particularily Christianity, is that it demands others be pumped full of its essence. Now lots of things do this, but most won't be built on lies, tyranny, and oppression like Christianity. Just remember the good ol days, when they burned you at the stake for a difference of opinion. (Please hold your comments till the end) Remember who committed these crimes. And just cause time has passed we forget all about it? So.... I can steal your car, and as long as I stay in the clear for a few days, I can go back and laugh about it in your face and be impervious to justice? No obviously not, but what difference does it make if it's a few days or a few centuries. Remember who committed these atrocities. Remeber those who died! They haven't really stopped dying. It's just not happening in our backyard. YET. The culprit is still among us, leading the 'sheep' away with lies for the cold hard cash of it all. We would do well, as a society, to exterminate this plague that has been with us so long, not forgive and forget, because religion IS getting crazy all over again.
And maybe we SHOULD be a little more totalitarian in regards to crime and punishment, not to keep people afraid, but to stop making light of henious crimes that I shall not mention on such a fine page.
Take for example this little equation, if it can be so called. (I guess I am going to mention henious crimes...) Simple thing. Rapist and victim. Where is the fear there? Why, Scott, its ALL on the victim! Before the event, (you might feel unsafe walking dark alleys as a 130lb woman) during the event, obvously, and after, with all that lovely trauma that I'm guessing never really goes away. It sure isn't on the criminal. Not before the event. There's no fear there because this sickly 'politically-correct' system of ours insists on upholding the 'rights' these people just terminated FOR THEMSELVES. So they're not afraid of the cops, or citizens who can't harm or kill them without breaking the law, they're not afraid of being locked up and given food, shelter, clothing, entertainment, and a chance to laugh, love and live again, and even if they do get caught, whats to stop them from doing it all over again?
If the punishment was say, death? What discourse could you possible have against that? Would we then be savages? I'd say we'd have a lower crime rate, and the only people who would die this 'savage death' we would have installed would be the ones who deserve it, as opposed to the innocent ones, such as like the way it is at present.
But hey I guess God's gonna smite these freaks or something, right? Vengeance belongs to the LORD? B'YAH!... We gotta take responsibility for what and who are, and what we've become, cause there's no going back. And where we're going if nothing changes is a nearly lawless society where the only laws that do exist only hider those who actually follow them. It's the damn honor system for a breed without honor.
I know there's no getting through to most of you, so I'll play it your way: if at least one more person hates me for this, then these words have not been in vain. There's no 'middle finger' icon so I'll use the smiley. Peace.

Effective communication doesn't typically involve arguments consisting of Marilyn Manson lyrics.

So I'm uncouth. I can't help the way I am. It's a damn good idea and I'm only one beaster. We need more beasters to suck it up, make sacrifices, and take a stand for what's necessary.
But fett, if I was a reactivist, I'd be a Satanist. This is cause and effect on a social scale. (which might seem like reactionism to the lesser mortals.) Stitch, if I used Manson lyrics in my post, it was completely unintentional. He is a pretty smart guy though, just listen to him on 'Bowling for Columbine'. (I hate Michael Moore by the way) There may be CrADLe oF FiLtH song titles cleverly inserted here and there, but any verbatim lyric stealing can be attributed to similarities in opinion. Also Fett, you might take differences in opinion with a little more grace. Or you might not. I may be a caveman, but you're just being childish. Maybe you could trade some of that sponge-like complacency for some of my unkillable tenacity and meet me in the middle.
