I'm at the point where I'm supposed to go meet Guide, and I've got a bit of a dillemma. After a bit of fucking around south of Rostok and a quick trip to grab the family rifle I'm just going to barrel right through the Warehouses and beyond.
Right now I'm at the bar and I'm trying to decide on what weapons to take with me. Weight is a problem, mostly supplies and ammo. I love the Groza and I've been using that for general work, but it's hard to find ammo for it (I stocked up at Yantar, but I'm running low again and Barman doesn't sell it.) I'm expecting to be getting a lot of Groza ammo towards the end, so I'm wondering if I should just use up the stuff I have now, then switch to a GP37 (I have a buttload of ammo for it, and it's easy to come by) and switch back to the Groza later?
Any suggestions? Would you recommend a different weapon?
I'm running Complete 2009, btw.

The G37 is awesome. Complete 2009 should have the grenade launcher attachment mod built in too.

I'm doing Pripyat at the mome, using Complete, and the ammo is pretty particularly spaced.
Around Warehouses and Red Forest you're not going to get a lot of 9x36 except from stashes. Most of the monolith guys carry AK rounds and 5.56 of various sorts even in Red Forest.
A NATO gun will serve you pretty well in most of the game, provided you can get some anti armor rounds (which I think nobody sells and you have to scavenge, but there is a fair bit of later on).
You can't buy 9x36 anywhere except from Duty (I think, in Complete at least) but I think they sell various kinds. So maybe stash the Groza and use the GP37 until after the Scorcher. Then you'll be able to buy ammo for the Groza, load up and head on to Pripyat and beyond, where guys also start dropping 9x36 more often.

Whatever the enemies are using.
Sad truth of unmodded SoC

It doesn't. I'm carting the Groza around in case I need the grenades.

Groza is good. Do quests for Voronin - you'll get lots of ammo for it pretty quickly.
5.56mm G36 is very good too as well as VAL (the latter for long distances).
I wouldn't take more than 2 barrels with me, I prefer to travel light (under 30-40kgs) to have a possibility to pick up arts, ammo, and suits along the way without overweighting myself over 50kgs.

Groza /5.45 (though whether Complete has it...)
G36
Covers the three main calibres, and both types of 'launchers.

I use the G37 exclusively after I get my hands on one. Right up until I get the FNF2000. I like the Groza, but I like having a scope even more, plus, as you pointed out, ammo is scacre for it until you get near the end.
