QUESTION: Can you reccomend any scary PC games to me? I'm starting to play Resident Evil 3 tomorrow and have played RE2 before. I know it's nothing like good 'ol SS the master but anything?
Silent Hill. I have never played a game more scary than this mental trip

I think the best moment for me was my first play through.
I had the room dark, headphones on.
Right at the beginning of the game, you get behind the first pressure door. Upgrade, scout around a little.
You head up the lift and see the ghost, that caught me off guard.
Then you scout everything here and think, hmm this is a little easy. Then you open the door at the end and see your first hybrid. I get the wrench ready, run at the poor bugger, it see me, I hear my first "KILL ME!!!"
A quick WTF, a few pipe meets meat sounds and I'm reloading thinking "cool!!!!!"
As for silent hill. The funny thin is that it's the consoles slow processor that makes it scary. The fog was there to limit your view so that they could give you detail without running a 3fps and the radio was there so you can tell when an enemys coming. As the fog obscured the enemy if you didn't have the radio you wouldn't be able to react in time before you got killed.
So the 2 things that makes it really scary where only there for technical reasons!

The main requirements for running games is usually a decent Video Card and a good amount of RAM, The Processor is strictly secondary.
I know this since I've been able to run games that usually require a 2.5 Gigahertz or greater with a 1.8 Gigahertz Processor, a 256MB Graphics Card, and a Gig of RAM.

When I got SS2 for Xmas I also got Aliens V Predator (the 1st one) and I found that quite scary, you probably won't get it too work now though, I never can :(
Oh and and AVP 2 is quite good also take a look at Clive Barker's Undying and perhaps Doom 3.
Sorry if these have been mentioned already
oh oh and The Thing! (very scary) :D

My favorite moment of System Shock 2 is definitely when you travel through the glory of SHODAN's memories to a nice, familiar place. Another favorite moment was on Ops when you're opening the door leading to the nice "arsenal," and the security bot is unexpectedly on the other side.
And Silent Hill.. The first one has got to be the scariest, even if the detail is pretty bad, but it's not the detail that made it scary for me.. Just the enemies. Running from the monkey on the way to the antique store, hearing those nurses from around the corners in the hospital, but not knowing what they'll do, et cetera.

Oh THANK YOU!!!
I've been meaning to get *the thing* for ages now but I had
completely forgotten it by now... and I've played through AvP1 a thousand times when it came out and MAN are those facebuggers even worse than SS2! Seriously, I have never -ever- felt such anxiety in my life other than knowing that a room contains those , f*****k. Also I played on the elite something difficulty and you only got two save games per lvl, ouch man...

I played AvP1 few years ago, the little I played it I didn't see anything scary. I admit that I didn't give it much of a chance, it came with my old computer as a bonus.
Angelfire on 11/12/2006 at 21:46
Well it really isn't until you start up playing with a marine and face your first facehugger bugger fu**er. ;)

Creatures that like hugging human faces in any game give me the creeps.
Maybe I should dig that old game up and try getting it to run on my computer and give it another chance.
