I'm sorry this must have been done thousand times already, but reading that doomed savegame topic and lulling myself back to the cargo bays of Von Braun I just couldn't resist :p
Also If you haven't finished SS2 it's not really a bright idea to read anything from here onwards - off you go, shoo!
SPOILERS AHEAD (possibly)!!!
For me perhaps the best moment in SS2 was when I finally realised that Von Braun has been HIJACKED by aliens (That's when it really HIT me, you know). The feeling of... lonelyness was so great, and I had just gotten my trusty shotgun to work right with that awesome drumming soundtrack of the engineering deck when Polito says that you're against aliens.
Yes, I know I'm a little slow, but I never read the manual before starting to play and I was somewhat younger back then :tsktsk:
Also on my first run I never even finished SS2. I just got to Rickenbakker and it was so frikkin dark and scary, and the many was whispering all that shit to me and there was this REALLY dark and menacing pipe ahead of me, and I just KNEW there were assassins there. I was like "fuck this!" and quit the game. I had played like 12 hours straight the day before, so it was sorta like a mental breakdown. I just couldn't take the anxienty anymore lol...
Also on my first go on the Gargo bays, while I was almost finished with the place, there was a power out. DAMN YOU GOD!!! Luckily I had a save game near otherwise I would've probably never dared to go there again hehe...
QUESTION: Can you reccomend any scary PC games to me? I'm starting to play Resident Evil 3 tomorrow and have played RE2 before. I know it's nothing like good 'ol SS the master but anything?

I see that you don't know the storyline very well.

Penumbra is almost like SS2 with the Atmosphere and the whole "Loneliness" aspect. Even though Penumbra is a just a Tech Demo its still something that I would recommend. I've still not completed the Tech Demo since I'm too much of a chicken but here's the site: (

Hey thanks for the reccommendation Ax, I really am gonna try it out tomorrow. Always looking for a good scare :D
And Bjo I don't get what you mean. I know the storyline of SS2 exactly... so?
Perhaps I should write ten sentences to describe one line. The Von Braun crew (influenced by the many) picked up some frikkin many entities from the surface of Tau Ceti V. Also Shodan got in inside a data fragment, or something like that can't remember. Then SHODAN is masquerading as polito, manipulating you to destroy the many which was her doing in the first place.
Are you adequately satisfied now? And yes, I would still say (by the words of SHODAN A.K.A Polito) that the ship has been HIJACKED by aliens. Period.

Much better, but I still think you could use a better word than 'hijacked'. If I remember correctly, Korenchkin and (I think) Diego went to the surface of Tau Ceti 5 and when they came back to the ship things started to get ugly. (maybe sooner?)
But my favorite, and one of the most scary moment, was bulkhead 4-1 of Ops.

LOL angelfire, im glad my failure inspired you to start a thread :P
by the way, same here in terms of game experience. my first time through, i stopped when i entered the code for the transmitter on deck five. when the email came in from shodan ordering me to "proceed to deck six", i remember saying to myself aloud "i'm not playing this anymore." fucking creepy.
best moment? man there are quite a bit of them. cargo bays. the flooded halls of engineering. the dark red-lit tunnels on either deck 7 or 8. great stuff.

ooooh btw, this penumbra thing looks really interesting. dont know if i can run it on my p4 1.6 though.
Bjossi on 11/12/2006 at 01:34
I highly doubt that, you should upgrade if you want to run any modern game...
xerxes2044 on 11/12/2006 at 01:55
yeah ive been looking to upgrade my processor. i figure thatll give it some more life so i can hold out till pcs get even cheaper when quadcores become common.
Bjossi on 11/12/2006 at 02:37
I think it is more important to upgrade the video card, depends on the game though.
