I got some watchin to do. However, my favorite has to be Full Metal Jacket, if for no other reason than it's got the motherfucking Gunny.
Watched Dr. Strangelove in my World History class in HS, that was awesome. Then again, so was the time we watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail. That's right, Monty Python in fucking High School. Needless to say, my World History teacher is amongst my favorite teachers ever, he rocked ass! :thumb:

Dr. Strangelove or how I always laugh my ass off with this movie
The shining.... come out come out where ever you're... here's Johnny!!!
Full Metal Jacket, a compelling movie
2001 A space odyssey, at least the central part is normal the rest oscillates between LSD bad trips and monkey business.

Eyes Wide Shut - A total load of bollocks, all of the characters were completely unlikeable. That droning piano tune irritated the fuck out of me.
Full Metal Jacket - Excellent first half with Lee Ermey and Vincent D'nofrio. Unconvincing second half, looked nothing like the Vietnam that I've seen in other films and felt like more the abandoned industrial area of a European city, he should've filmed it in the likes of Thailand like everyone else.
The Shining - Superb imagery and a portrait of a man gradually being driven insane.
2001: A Space Odyssey - Excellent individual scenes and practical special effects, worth seeing for those alone.
A Clockwork Orange - It was quite mad. Definitely an entertaining film.

Aliens? Piss Poor? No it wasn't. It had a similar appeal to Predator - watching a bunch of gung-ho US soldiers\marines crack under pressure when faced with a superior foe.
I got news. We all crack when faced with a superior foe. Frankly I would have shit myself and emptied my clip in the ride to the hive.
A Clockwork Orange had the most interesting concept.

They're all great but I'd rate 2001 above everything with Dr Strangelove just behind it. Full Metal Jacket, the Shining, and Clockwork Orange are brilliant as well, of course. I'd have a hard time not rating those 5 above every other film I've ever seen, really.
Do people who hate the ending of 2001 not understand what's going on or do you just hate seeing evolution in a science fiction context? If it's the latter I'd imagine you hated the beginning as well.

I hate 2001's ending because it's stupid pretentious bullshit that comes out of fucking nowhere and you're left feeling bewildered as to what the fuck just happened- particularly the absolute very end.
I hate it more because I get it.

That would just perpetuate the stereotype of what SE Asia is actually like. Have a look for some footage or pics from the battle of Hue. Being a city that, as it stood, was built extensively during the French period (and then basically leveled) they did a damn good job.
