getting her tits out in Swordfish.
The only - and I do mean the ONLY - redeeming features about that movie.

If nothing else (Alien and BR put aside), then certainly The Duellists, Legend, Thelma and Louise and 1492 hold their firm position in history of modern cinema. Pretty much every director had his weak pieces... maybe with exception of Stan, hehe.
Also, if you put such an overgrown kid like Spielberg into the list of the greatest filmmakers, then Scott deserves his share of the pie, too!
The Duellists is pretty good and I forgot about that one.
Thelma and Louise is a solid movie but extremely over rated. I think the fact you're pulling out films like
Legend and
1492 as examples really shows that their isn't much great work in his filmography. Of course you'll disagree, and thats fine, but you're never going to convince me that Ridley Scott is not much more than a stylist.:p
I knew someone would take issue with Spielberg's inclusion but I didn't want to have my list skew to hard into old/foreign/arty territory and while he can make awful films -
Hook anyone? - he has made so many of absolute or near classics that it would be crazy not to include him.

I'm more a fan of Minority Report rather than ET.
He was good with Jurassic Park though - never saw that one coming!

The Alien trilogy was great aside from the 2nd and 3rd films.
See, I wasn't lying.

Jaws is still the best movie committed to film and fuck anyone who says otherwise.

Judging by the list you're quite a mainstream guy who likes mainly films that
entertain by action, strange you like Stalker to the degree it's one of your favorites. It's what I wanted to know. I have nothing against mainstream movies, but we were talking about apples and oranges here, no wonder Kubrick works aren't interesting to you.
What the fuck?

Wow, I double posted.

But of course, you can have in your fav list whoever you want. What matters to me more, is what will be written in film encyclopedias not biased by personal sentiments.
