Online, but they're almost always the site of a shop with a physical walk-in showroom, that has good, reliable customer service.
If I'm ordering the makings of an entire PC, then I'd make use of the shop's assembly service, since I have no confidence in my own abilities when it comes to motherboards, CPUs and PSUs.
RAM, GPUs, expansions drives and interface cards... I'm fine on my own.

thanks. do you have any examples of places online to buy from?

Well, if you're in the UK (you have nothing displayed), I'd recommend having a look at (
http://www.aria.co.uk) aria.co.uk and (
http://www.cube247.co.uk) cube247.co.uk. I've worked with both sites before, and I've had nothing to complain about. I bought my desktop PC from Cube about a year ago, and upgraded its video card from Aria a couple of weeks ago (Aria does single components as well). My flatmates (is there such a term as "housemates"?) and I also bought one low-end PC for the living room from Aria, and one of them is now looking to get himself one of Cube's systems around the 700 pounds mark this Christmas.
We've had no issues with faulty equipment so far, and while that's absolutely great, I can't offer any info on how they deal with servicing their stuff, though.

Thanks for the reply.
What do you guys think of computers from Dell, Alienware, iBUYPOWER or MagicMicro?
Ostriig on 3/11/2008 at 02:54
Um, from what I hear, Dell is far from being a respected company among gamers, and with Alienware you're paying for the brand, as far as I'm concerned. But I might be wrong, don't have any personal experience with either. Never heard of the other two.

I am considering buying a system from magicmicro.com
I hope I'm not making a terrible mistake...
