And someone is probably gonna have to post this slice of beautiful, expensive insanity as well. Romain Gavras video for Jamie XX's "Gosh".

Yes! I've been listening to videogame soundtracks this afternoon and there was indeed a lot of good stuff this year. The DOOM soundtrack is great, and listening to the Furi soundtrack right now makes me think I should probably play this thing. I've had it sat on my PS4 for a while, courtesy of PS+, but have yet to touch it.
Anyway, also good: (

I did not know there was a new video for Gosh. It's... weird and slightly disturbing, and I don't like the song so much, but why am I putting it on repeat? Everything is a mystery.
HLD's OST is classic Disasterpeace, and if you like his stuff, check out the It Follows OST -- which he also did. It's super Carpenter-esque.

I've done so badly this year. I think the only thing I've really listened to properly thats new is the new tribe called quest album (which is a stone banger). I've been going through the fact mag top 50 for a month or so now but nothing has really jumped out at me, that Jenny Hval one is ok?
This thread has got some keepers so far though, nice one. Did anyone listen to that new melvins side project thing? fairy dust or some shit?
This Xiu Xiu stuff is great, Jason. Reminds me of Kaada.

I typically gravitate toward good female vocalists, and 2016 was pretty generous in that respect. In first months I spent a lot of time with 2015's Lianne La Havas and "Blood" ((
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFic-xaLsPs)), only to find amazing album by Esperanza Spalding, "Emily's D+Evolution" ((
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7RBXxyg48U)). On the other hand, Banks' "The Altar" was solid, production-wise, but somewhat underwhelming in substance. New Chairlift ("Moth") came out even worse. The second part of the year was absolutely dominated by Solange's "A seat at the table" ((
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvatyFNsbeE)). I just fell in love with that album, just as I did with "Blood" a year before.
Apart from that, I thought Case/Lang/Veirs would be my favorite folk record of 2016 ((
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-81jnVsCQw)), and I spent many hours running, and walking in the park with it, but then came Bon Iver with his progressive glitchy gospel thing and blew everything out of the water: (

In terms of other men, Nicholas Jaar "Sirens" is something amazing too, but you have to give it time ((
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=643_-rR87no)). Cohen's Last album is something I can't listen to for too long, not because "he is a fucking poet", but because of how graceful and moving his last album ever is. He obviously knew what would happen, decided to end his career on his own terms, with modesty, elegance, a bit of anger, and regret.
In terms of men no longer, and how I will remember year 2016 outside music: I never liked Antony and the Johnsons, as his cadence always irritated me a bit. Bu, I can't be indifferent to Anohni's "Hopelessness" and stories like this one: (
