It's that time of year again! Time to make lists stating our opinions on what music was best this year, and then point out the incorrect opinions of others when they list the wrong things.
Albums:1.
Kanye West - The Life Of PabloThis guy. An enigma wrapped in a mystery wrapped in a Louis Vuitton overcoat. “This generation’s closest thing to Einstein”, according to himself. His mastery of slick producin’ only matched by his mastery of saying dumb shit on twitter. This album is an affront to my delicate sensibilities, and I cannot stop listening to it.
2.
The Divine Comedy - ForeverlandYou guys are familiar with the works of Neil Hannon, yes? He’s the guy who wrote the “My Lovely Horse” song for that episode of Father Ted where Ted and Dougal enter the Eurovision Song Contest. He’s also made some other good stuff. Like this album.
3.
A Tribe Called Quest - We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your ServiceGreat beats, great lyrics. To put it simply: this is just really great.
4.
Leonard Cohen - You Want It DarkerLeonard Cohen was a FUCKING POET.
5.
NOFX - First Ditch EffortFat Mike is a FUCKING POET.
Honorable mentions:Charles Bradley - Changes
Aesop Rock - The Impossible Kid
bob hund - Dödliga klassiker
Best song: Charles Bradley - "Ain't it a Sin"

[off]How dumb of me to presume thief players to have (any) good taste. Man, these are abominations. [/off]

zoog's off to a flying start, only instead of posting actual, like, music, he's doing his best impression of a person eating a butt. I suppose that's beautiful crystalline music in the dimension he's from.
2016 had little music I cared about, so at the fore is a divisive owlperson doing his damndest to be experimental and existentially haunting (and succeeding, damn your eyes):

There was also (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI2oS2hoL0k) a Radiohead song I enjoyed in passing.
Apart from REAL MUSIC, there was-- were... video games? Yes. Beautiful, grimy, dirty video games.
1. Doom 2016 managed to (
https://youtu.be/Jm932Sqwf5E?t=302) singlehandedly renew my faith in FPS soundtracks.
2. Not Bon Iver, but (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsJUFN-BkjI) Owlboy still has some of the most beautiful audio and visuals of the year. If there's only one thing you click on in this post, (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xw0_Ne5Zh8o) make it this.
3. Furi has (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0x_JK0VfIc) Lorn, Waveshaper, and (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyyhWQ1t2QM) Carpenter Brut contributing to its frantically synthy OST.
Also of note was (
https://makeupandvanityset.bandcamp.com/track/interference) Brigador's OST, which I've yet to sample fully but sounds fairly cool so far.

Wow, I guess zoog is the new zajazd. Feel free to disappear.
I'm so out of touch with new music, but I did like the tracks I heard off the new Tribe Called Quest album and also some of De La Soul's release. Also, as much as I want to dislike him for being the most hipsterish hipster ever, some of the new Bon Iver songs are pretty good too.
Stuff I want to check out from this year but haven't yet: Radiohead, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, The Pixies. I think Beck has a new album too.
I still don't get the hype and popularity of Beyonce and Kanye, just zero interest in any of their stuff at this point.

Well, I guess no one really cared about music in 2016, so here's some more tunes that I think were pretty fucking good.

Here's two guys with guitars and a dude sitting on a bass drum with sleigh bells on a different limb at different times BRINGING ALL THE SHIT. (this was from 2015, so I'm cheating, but whaddya gonna do about it, HUH?)

And finally for tonight, the most goddamn adorable video of the year, to offset all the death and awfulness of a year that was full of awfulness and death.

Yes, this is a good use of this thread. I like that King song. :)
Here's Badbadnotgood and Samuel T. Herring with one of the coolest tracks of the year.

And here's Rihanna with a good ol' boozy torchsong. I didn't know they still made these. Reminds me of Dinah Washington singing Drinking Again.
