You know the feeling - you battle through an Ayeleid ruin, avoid the traps, slaughter anyone or anything in your path, and then you find it - the most awesome bit of loot EVAR. The thing that puts a huge smile on your face. Ah yeah, you know what I mean. :D
So i'll start us off by listing a couple of my best finds:
- Honorblade of Chorrol
Redguard Valley Cave, South of Chorrol - might only appear with "Sins of the Father" quest, though
A quality sword with... 0 weight!? Might be because it's a quest item, though. Second only to Daedric Longsword in damage, I think.
- Ring of Perfection
Random loot, i believe, but I got mine in Kemen, East of Cheydinhal
+10 to every frickin' stat! What more could you want?
- Shield of the Elements
Again, maybe random, but I got mine in Imperial City Prison Offices
Light armour Elven shield with 20% Resist Fire, Frost, and Shock.
Anyone got anything better? Excluding self-enchanted items, natch.

Honor Blade only shows up for that quest. The other two are random drops.
Ring of the Iron Fist, another random, +25 HtH & 33% Reflect Damage.
Greaves of Purity, random, 20 Spell Absorption Glass Greaves.

*Rockshatter - 0 weight, really good dmg compared to other maces, 20 Shock dmg with lotsa uses
*Grand Ring of Shadows - 30% Chameleon
*Base Amulet of Absorption - 14 Spell Absorption (gotta be better ones, but this is just 1 short of what a sigil stone can give)
*Ring of Absorption - 15 Spell Absorption
*Ring of Retribution - 10% dmg reflection
*Grand Ring of Aegis - 18 Shield
*Amulet of Reflection - 20% Spell Reflect

Dont the hell ask me where i got the stuff, coz i dont know :b

I stumbled upon some "Boots of the Siltrunner" which also have constant water walking - pretty nifty for getting to remote locations, as you can just run down the rivers avoiding any bandits/daedra/annoying wildlife.
I suppose one of the problems with discussing Oblivion is that, as i'm finding out through looking in the TES Construction Set, most items are levelled and randomly generated. No chance of getting extremely powerful weapons/items too early, unlike in Morrowind (I remember getting some fantastic rings very early in the game). A good thing or a bad thing though? :erg:

Everytime I'd start a new character in Morrowind I'd head first to Marandus to get the Ebony sword on the roof, then to meet a couple of scam artists pretending to need help for an 80% chameleon ring, then finally, ring in hand, off to the Ghost Gate for some neato Glass Armor.
I'm not sure what to think of Oblivion's leveled system. On the one hand it's nice to keep us honest and things in balance, on the other it totally sucks that if you do a quest too soon you get a sucky piece of equipment forever. I don't have a better solution though.

There's a mod that levels the leveled quest rewards with you, quite a nice fix to the new problem. I don't have the link on hand, but try looking on the usual mod sites.
