Which is the best great house to join (Hlaalu, Redoran, Televanni)? And what are some pros and cons of each one?
True Spirit on 16/8/2002 at 08:50
Well it really depends on your choice i guess. And maybe your class. Hlaalu are traders and for thieves mostly, Redoran are honorable fighers, and Telvanni -- crazed wizards. You make that choice wisely, because, like said before, you shouldn't join more than one unless you use the plugin or some mod, but you can try it if you really want. The most important thing you get i guess it's the stronghold, wich is so useless by the way.

In what way is it useless? As a place to store all your loot and get a few free goodies (ebony weapons, staffs etc) I think it's quite good...

Well YES you get the feeling that you EARNED a place of your own, but it's in the middle of nowhere, and can't do nothing important with it. I still remember BG 2 when you got your own stronghold and more quests comming with that. From time to time, the place got attacked, peasants came with their own problems, and various people tried to take it over. Most interesting, but it doesn't happen in Morrowind.
I would have liked it if at least you could hire guards, or fight for your stronghold, or more and more yady yada...
But i guess it's still good rather than NOTHING. :bored:

Yeah that would be quite good but like you said the strongholds are in the middle of no where and an invading army would more likely attack some where with more strategic importance.
The odd thief might be cool though as those guards (dwemer robots or real) would have something to do but i could see how people would get annoyed when important quest items were stolen.
I don't think the positioning of the strongholds are that bad anyway - all you need is the mark and recall spell and you can get there when you like and then just use one of the intervention spells to teleport out to the nearest town. It might be harder for none mage types but it isn't like you can't buy / find some mark and recall enchantments.

yeah but the hlaalu stronghold for example... is just a useless layout imo..
not how i would have designed it... AND it doesn't even have my name on it...
pffffffft... they coulda at least done that... :nono:
so now it's just sittin out there... haven't been there in god knows how long..
Red on 16/8/2002 at 12:43
Well the Hlaalu stronghold is the only one i haven't been around - my next quest though is to go there and kill the lord of the stronghold.
I have to admit the lay outs usually stink but i've just got my second phase Telvanni stronghold and not to rub your nose in it but i think the layout is great. All the various npcs are outside in their own little house pods and i have the whole tower to my self. It has a large hall/reception area/ which at one end i store my collection of armour etc and it has an upstairs with a shelf two beds, chest, table etc. It'll be bigger when it gets to the final stage though with another level, more npcs houses, a dungeon, and dwemer robot guards.
I just hope it has more chests to store my items...

What! You mean you don't go there to sleep when you level up? It beats sleeping rough that's for sure. What about when you need to off load some goodies you've just collected from your last quest?

yeah if your strong hold anything like the ones of the telvanni wizards i been choppin up :ebil: then you got it pretty good...
my hlaalu stronghold is finished.. all upgrades n so forth done... and i dun like it at all..
damn npc that are no good too me runnin about... way to small...
i was livin in the council club until my stronghold was complete...
then i made the decision to live in narano manor in balmora..
nice n roomy plenty of tables to neatly lay out my treasure ( i don't know why i do it.. since noone is ever gonna see).. shelves for books and my helmet collection (i try and get one of each type)
i could use a few extra chests/baskets/crates though for ingredients.
it has a nice luxury king size bed upstairs to level up in comfort... ...
and a cupboard (keep jewellery/clothing for enchanting and enchanted non-weapon or armour items in there) n chest of drawers (for sanguine items).. a big chest to store treasure in... (precious stones, and other expensive things like salts, daedra hearts etc... value has to be over 50 to make this chest)
go in and have alook around next time ur in balmora.. it's tons better than the stronghold they built for me...

Nice, but alittle too spacious for my taste. I really want something smaller. Nice and cozey with lots of crates, tables and shelves are a must. But what will really do the ticket is for it to be dark. That way my huge blue lantern collection will show real nicely.
I also steal those gold trays the Mages love so much. Great for sorting and displaying soul gems.
By the way, does loot that I steal get laundered when I sell it to Creeper and buy it back? Or does it still get nabbed by the guards if I'm wearing it when I pay a fine?
