Realism for a flight sim is more a function of how accurate and detailed the aircraft and airport models are. Third parties like ORBX (that Hit Deity mentioned above) make detailed models for FSX, FS2020, and X-Plane. So if you want to fly the A320 in and out of busy airports, you have good options in any of the games.
The thing that got me hooked on FS2020 is the semi-realistic terrain and scenery everywhere. In past games, the world has little islands of detail, mostly around airports, and places where you've paid for content. But the rest of the world is strictly flyover country, in that looks OK cruising at 35kft, but closer up it's flat, featureless, and blurry. It wasn't much fun to fly little planes around sightseeing before FS2020, but now that's pretty much all I'm doing.

I might grab FS2020 the next time I can get a good deal on it then, if the "generic" scenery is that good. Sounds like it might be worth it.

Before you decide to buy, you can check out the countless screenshots and YouTube videos of various places around the world. The highlights are obviously the highlights. Have reasonable expectations if you want to fly over your hometown and other places of personal interest. If you visit them in Google Earth, that will give you a rough idea of what to expect.
I was caught hook, line, and sinker by the combination of MSFS2020 + ORBX Cityscape Sydney. I lived there for 3 years and was traveling for work a lot, so I've seen the Sydney area from the air dozens of times. This looks pretty damn realistic over the whole city and harbour. I can't even fly there anymore in X-Plane 11; although the flying simulation is as good or better, it just looks so primitive and unrealistic. I guess I've become a graphics whore.

Haha! Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

I've been enjoying replaying Fallout 4 for the past few weeks, having never played Far Harbor, it really packs some atmosphere!

I played that one through a second time a while ago. Guess I'll do a 3rd run when they release the next gen update.
I'm absolutely bored about 99% of modern games which are released these days. They just plain suck, made for an audience I'm no longer a part of. It's OK. There's still the occasional game which interests me, like a new Fallout, a new GTA, or Starfield which is coming out this year. There's also Monomyth, which will probably be nice, and the System Shock remake which I already pre-purchased. I also did the crowdfunder for Firmament, which will surely be nice too.
