I believe that one of the most basic ways people go wrong is anthropomorphising whatever fundamental forces are responsible for the universe.
So some Dickensian cunt in B.C. times is responsible for all this religion business?
Seriously, that man could anthropomorphise a doorknob.

I'm inclined to think that anything outside the physical universe is unknowable and ill-defined.
This. I like to think (for no rational reason whatsoever) that there's a cognisant relationship behind the forces that drive the universe and that created them from the infinite, but that's really just a comforting thought to stop my brain from imploding in a wet pop if I were to contemplate existence in a grander fashion. In general though, I definitely believe that we'll never have any of the answers we seek in any timeline of humanity.

Here was me thinking insufferable heaviness was Muslims stoning women to death for committing adultery or Christians burning witches at the stake, and all this time what it really was was expressing an opinion on the Internet. Consider me informed.
Best post in thread.

That's the worst thing about it, for me. The belief that a divine being created this universe and everything in it for people is easily the single most arrogant idea humans have ever had.

And then tell me that this is all for us, one species on a minuscule rock floating in space, with a straight face.
Existence beyond our miniscule rock is unsubstantiated hogwash, an elaborate optical illusion perpetrated by Satan to gain more converts to his war (under the guise of an anti-religious stance) and is perpetuated by his nasty atheist suck asses (NASA) here on earth.

Wrong, god put all that nice stuff out there about 5-6 thousand years ago. And before you say "blah blah light years + distance = blah", god put the light there too so we could see shiny stars at night.

I have read multiple long 'post your supernatural experiences' threads on forums. I've
never read any 'post your Loch Ness/UFO/talking animals experiences' threads, let alone any that were that long. I'm sure they exist on specialized Loch Ness/UFO forums, but the difference between the amount of people that have reported supernatural experiences and the amount of people who have reported Loch Ness and talking animals experiences is quite large.
And BTW, I'm not sure I believe in UFOs but I also don't
not believe in them, I think it's definitely possible that there's extraterrestrial life out there and that they might be visiting us.
The difference is that while sightings of things like UFOs and the Loch Ness monster are constrained to specific settings (Night sky/a lake) and are generally frowned upon in most of society, supernatural experiences can 'occur' at any time, anywhere and are generally encouraged (!) by churches and organized religious services.

Yeah and kids believing in Santa Claus will inevitably "grow out of it", until that it's ha ha cute silly child taking make believe as reality, shh let's not spoil his delusions yet.
But has anyone ever really proved Santa Claus does
not exist? :sly:
You can't prove that.
In case anybody has read Descartes'
Meditation on the First Philosophy, I would refer to that: Nothing can be, save that
I exists, and that my
creator exists, ascertained.
Of course, a bunch of other stuff can be derived from this, like that there must be finity and infinity, different levels and modes of existence (at least two), but the main point is: I and my creator existing is solely the only thing that can be proved.
